MIUI 13.1 Update: Everything We Know So Far

Xiaomi has secretly released the first MIUI 13.1 developer beta update for the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro. The new version of MIUI is based on Android 13, which should be ready for more devices in the future. With MIUI 13.1, Xiaomi is putting in a lot of effort to make Android 13 better and more powerful than ever before. Let’s look at the new MIUI 13.1 based on Android 13.

Naturally, we expected the middle ground between MIUI 13 and MIUI 14 to be MIUI 13.5. However, this seems to be untrue. We were surprised to see Xiaomi release a stop-over version of MIUI for its devices— MIUI 13.1. Xiaomi has started testing the new version of MIUI on two of the most recent flagships— the Xiaomi 12 and the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

MIUI 13.1 Features

MIUI 13.1 might not be as huge of an update as MIUI 12.5, as it is not much different from MIUI 13. However, the most notable feature of the update is the new Android version. As you might have guessed, this update is being rolled out for China devices only.

At present, we do not have much information about the new update. Android 13 could be the only major feature of this update. MIUI 13.1 shouldn’t disappoint if we see the new Android 13 features in the update. However, since things aren’t clear, we can expect other new features as well. We will have to wait for the public release of the update to get any more information regarding the same.

MIUI 13.1 Release Date

While the current status of MIUI 13.1 is still in the developer build, we can expect the stable build to be released by the end of next month, i.e., September 2022. MIUI 13.1 is based on Google’s Android 13 Beta 3, which makes sense as it is the most stable Android 13 Beta.

Google plans to release the Android 13 stable build by August or September 2022. Therefore, we can expect the Chinese tech giant to start its Android 13 public testing around the same time frame. Moreover, the company is also working on MIUI 14, which will merge Android 13 into the MIUI experience.

MIUI 13.1 Supported Phones

The first batch of devices to receive the MIUI 13.1 update are the Xiaomi 12 and the Xiaomi 12 Pro. The build carrier version number is V13.1.22.7.28.DEV and weighs 5.2 GB.

Other Xiaomi flagships like the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and the K50 Pro should follow this. However, it is highly unlikely that MIUI 13.1 will come to other Xiaomi devices too. If we look into the past, the Android 12-based MIUI 12.5 update was only made available for the Xiaomi 11 series and the K40 Pro. Other Xiaomi devices received the Android 12 update based on MIUI 13.

Presumably, Xiaomi is aiming to do something similar this year as well. MIUI 13.1 could be just a way of testing the new Android 13 on MIUI. We look forward to an official clarification from Xiaomi on MIUI 13.1 once the public beta is released.
