Apple Could Launch a 20.3-inch Foldable MacBook Before a Foldable iPhone

Foldable smartphones are one of the best innovations in the smartphone space over the past decade. They are devices centered mostly around productivity while also being a fashion statement in some cases. What makes them more special than most is that they are portable. Some of them even offer much more than a regular slab-style smartphone.

Android brands have been innovating in the foldable smartphone space for many years. In fact, the first concept of a foldable smartphone dates back to as early as 2006. The first commercially available device of this kind was the Royole FlexPai, released more than a decade later in 2018 by the Chinese company Royole. This leaves us wondering why Apple has not done anything in this market yet, considering the popularity of Apple’s products.

While we do not have a definitive answer to that, we do have some interesting bits of information regarding this matter, which we have covered in this article.

Apple has Plans to Launch a Huge Foldable MacBook in 2027

Amidst queries about whether Apple will release a foldable iPhone or a foldable iPad first, an analyst on X (formerly Twitter) has shared something quite interesting and a bit unexpected. The analyst stated that the only foldable Apple product that has a clear development schedule as of now is a MacBook. Also, just last month, there were rumors being circulated about a foldable Apple product planned for 2027.

Adding more to the post, the analyst also revealed that this foldable MacBook will come with a size of 20.3 inches, which is quite huge. For some reference, Apple’s largest MacBook is 16 inches. In addition to that, this device could reach the mass production stage in 2027. This is still quite far away. However, it seems earlier than any other foldable product from Apple.

This piece of information gives rise to another debate — the foldable iPhone. There were some rumors that Apple may launch the first of this kind next year or in 2026. While its development might still very possibly be underway, it is not likely to come out before 2027. And that is primarily because, as stated earlier, the only Apple product with a clear development schedule is the aforementioned MacBook.

Before we conclude, it is important to note that all of this is very early data. We can see some changes as we approach the specified timeline. Apple has yet to release a MacBook, or even an iPad, with an OLED display. This highlights that there is still a long way to go before we see a foldable MacBook. That is unless Apple decides to give us an all-in-one package. Only time will tell.
