First Real Life Look at Google Pixel 9 Pro

Google has a track record of launching their phones around October every year. This year is no different, with the Pixel 9 Series possibly being scheduled for an October launch.

As the naming scheme suggests, Google has been launching the Pixel Series for 9 years. The original lineup from 2016 consisted of 2 phones, Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL.

Fast forwarding to 2024, we have seen many changes in the Google Pixel lineup. We saw the removal of the XL model with the Pixel 5 and the introduction of the “Pro” line with the Pixel 6. Now, with the Pixel 9 Series, there’s a brand new “Pro XL” model.

This leak means there are now 3 devices being launched instead of 2. Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. If the brand is following the XL concept like in the past, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is just a larger version of the Pixel 9 Pro with a bigger battery and everything else being the same.

However, more than the design and spec sheet was leaked. Real-life images of the Google Pixel 9 Pro have also been leaked online (via rozetked.me).

The biggest design change we can see is the new pill-shaped camera bump rather than edge-to-edge. Additionally, the device seems to be much more rounded than its predecessors.

However, the phone keeps other things from its predecessors, like the temperature sensor near the cameras, a flat display on the front, and the “soft-touch glass” material on the back.

In the image, the 6.1-inch Pixel 9 Pro is kept beside an iPhone 14 Pro Max as a reference for the size. The leaker, Rozetked, says (translated) that the Pixel 9 Pro is “similar in size to the iPhone 15 Pro.” The 6.7-inch Pixel 9 Pro XL, on the other hand, should be an identical size to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The base Pixel 9, however, will be the smallest at 6.03-inch. The source also shows images of the Pixel 9 Pro from a side that shows a flatter frame.

Regarding other specs, there’s an upgrade from the Tensor G3 to G4. However, there might be a whopping 16GB RAM variant for the Pixel 9 Pro. The phone, codenamed “Caiman,” is leaked by the bootloader screen to have 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

For context, the Pixel 8 Pro had up to 12GB, a good amount. Unfortunately, the Pixel 9 Pro will start at a measly 128GB storage like the predecessor.

It’s high time Google ups its storage game to a minimum of 256GB. Even midrange phones like the Poco X6 Pro have started to come with 256GB as the base with equally fast UFS 4.0 storage.

As of now, the launch of these phones is quite far away. Although some of the leaks might be true, there’s also a possibility they are not. But it’s unlikely, as the leaks we have seen above look fairly real.
