Xiaomi MIUI 13 Update: Everything We Know So Far

MIUI 13 is the next generation of Xiaomi’s Android skin

Last year, Xiaomi had pulled the curtains on MIUI 12  globally. We got to see what’s new with the new version of MIUI and the interface has been changed indeed with lots of attention given to small details, like the corners of icons and windows. The stable version of MIUI 12 was started pushing out to the eligible Xiaomi devices starting from June 2020. But what came as a surprise was the company’s announcement regarding the next iteration(MIUI 13) during MIUI 12 launch event. Nobody expected such a bold move from the company right after the launch event was completed.

What is MIUI 13?

MIUI 13 is an upcoming custom skin for Mi, Redmi and Poco phones. It will likely be based on the Android 11/Android 12 operating system. In other words, MIUI 13 is a modified version of Android with additional features.

Feature Design Survey

Xiaomi has put up a post in its community app of China asking for users to participate in Feature Design Survey for MIUI 13. Some Xiaomi devices have not yet received the MIUI 12 update. But, it seems the company is planning to start its work for MIUI 13. Xiaomi had started the MIUI 12’s launch event in China with the MIUI head saying, “Software is the soul of mobile phones, and it is more important than hardware to some extent”. These words reflect their actions too, as it is quite amazing to see a company is showing interest in the next OS version just hours after the latest version was launched.

MIUI 13 Release Date

Earlier. MIUI 13 was expected to be announced in August 2021 alongside Mi Mix 4. Now it has been reported that MIUI 13’s launch has been delayed. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed via Weibo that MIUI 13 will be released by the end of the year. However, the first MIUI 13 beta build could be available for developers by September 2021. The stable build will be rolled out later.

We don’t know the exact date when we will see next-generation MIUI 13 on our device, but it will be probably running on top of Android 11 for sure. However, as per the company’s track record, MIUI 13 will likely be released globally in Q1 2022 with several new features over its predecessor. Recently, Xiaomi has released the latest version of the MIUI Cleaner app with a v21.05.26 build number. Its changelog revealed that Xiaomi has included support for MIUI 13 floating windows. This suggests the next generation MIUI 13 is indeed in development.
