We are only a few weeks away from the new iPhone launches, given that Apple follows the trend of launching them each September. This year, we are waiting for the iPhone 16 series.
But interestingly, we have a lot going on with the next generation as well. We are seeing some recent leaks, which we will discuss in this article.
iPhone 17 Series: A Lot New
In a recent post on Weibo, renowned leaker Ice Universe shared some interesting details regarding upcoming iPhones. While the main focus is the iPhone 17 series, we can also see some details about the iPhone SE4.
We can see a new iPhone model — the iPhone 17 Slim. This will be a replacement for the Plus models, which we have seen in two iPhone generations thus far — the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 15 series. We will likely see it in the iPhone 16 series, albeit for the last time. While the rumors about this upcoming Slim model are not new, this leak pretty much confirms its existence.
Display
If the leaked information turns out to be true, the base iPhone models will move away from the 6.1-inch form factor to a larger 6.27-inch one with the iPhone 17 series. The iPhone 17 Pro will feature the same screen size as the base iPhone 17.
The iPhone 17 Slim will have a 6.65-inch display. This is roughly the same size as the existing iPhone 15 Plus, which measures 6.7 inches. Lastly, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will also move to a larger form factor measuring 6.86 inches.
What is interesting about the display on the iPhone 17 series is that Apple may finally add support for ProMotion across all of the models. Currently, only the Pro models offer this feature, which will likely be the case with the iPhone 16 series. For the unaware, ProMotion is Apple’s term for high screen refresh rate. As of now, this feature dials the refresh rate up to 120Hz.
On a related note, all of the iPhone 17 series will have LTPO OLED screens, as previous reports state. LTPO screens automatically lower the refresh rate while displaying static content, which eventually helps in saving battery life. All the models will feature the Dynamic Island.
Performance
The leaked data shows that the Pro models of the iPhone 17 series will feature the A19 Pro chip. It will be based on TSMC’s 3nm process. The other two models, the base and the Slim, will feature the A19 chip.
Also, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are going to be the first iPhones to have 12GB of RAM. The other two will have 8GB each. Also, this is going to be LPDDR5 RAM, on all four devices.
Camera
The base iPhone 17 is going to feature a dual camera setup. The Pro models, like always, will sport a triple camera setup. Also, while it was known that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the first iPhone to feature three 48MP cameras, it seems like the iPhone 17 Pro will also join it for that title.
The three cameras will namely be a main wide one, an ultrawide one, and a telephoto. The Pro models will also have a ToF (Time of Flight ) sensor. As for the iPhone 17 Slim, the leak does not mention anything about the camera layout on it.
Miscellaneous
As mentioned in the leak, the base and the Slim models will have an aluminium body. The Pro models, on the other hand, will have a titanium one. All the models will also feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon modem. The leak also mentions basic information like Face ID being on all the devices, along with USB-C.
Price and Launch Date
Lastly, the leak also contains information about the pricing of these new iPhones and their respective launch dates. As expected, they will be launched in September of 2025. Coming to the price, the base iPhone 17 will be the cheapest at $799, followed by the Pro and the Pro Max models which will come with price tags of $1099 and $1199, respectively.
The iPhone 17 Slim will be the costliest of the bunch, starting at $1299. For some context, these are the launch prices of the latest iPhones:
- iPhone 15: $799
- iPhone 15 Plus: $899
- iPhone 15 Pro: $999
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: $1199
iPhone SE 4
Finally, there is the iPhone SE 4. This will be the fourth iPhone in Apple’s cheaper iPhone SE lineup. As per the leak, this is going to be the smallest iPhone, with a 6.06-inch OLED LTPS panel.
It will feature neither the Dynamic Island nor ProMotion, which means we will see a notched 60Hz display on the device. This also means that Apple will finally move away from Touch ID to Face ID for the iPhone SE series.
It is worthwhile to note that this will be the first model in the iPhone SE lineup to get an OLED screen. However, it does not end there, as the iPhone SE 4 will be a very special upgrade for this lineup.
It is going to be the first iPhone SE to feature a high-resolution 48MP camera. USB-C will also make its first appearance on the iPhone SE lineup with this device. It might even get the Action Button as well.
Not just that, the iPhone SE 4 will also get a RAM upgrade, with 6GB to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Besides that, it is expected to run on the A18 chip. Other features include an aluminium body, and an Apple or Qualcomm modem.
Previous reports also talk about the battery being the same as on the iPhone 14. Lastly, the device will be priced around $499 to $529. As for the launch date, it could be anywhere between March to May of 2025.
Before we conclude this post, it is important to note that these are still leaks. These details are subject to change as we are very far away from these launches.
