If you are thinking Samsung will bring a big upgrade to the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s zoom cameras, you may want to hold that thought. Previous leaks suggested the flagship could get a new 4x telephoto camera with a much larger sensor. However, a trusted tipster has now cast doubt on that camera upgrade.
Samsung may keep the 5x zoom camera
Last month, we heard Samsung was testing a 4x telephoto camera with a 1/1.9-inch sensor for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The larger sensor could deliver better detail and low-light performance than the smaller telephoto sensors used on current Ultra phones.
That would be a major change to Samsung’s zoom strategy. The Galaxy S26 Ultra has separate 3x and 5x telephoto cameras, while the rumored S27 Ultra setup would rely on a single 4x camera.
However, noted Samsung leaker Ice Universe has now pushed back against this claim. The leaker says the Galaxy S27 Ultra will still have a 5x telephoto camera with a 1/2.52-inch sensor. If accurate, this means the Korean giant may not replace the existing 5x hardware with the rumored 4x camera after all.
What about the 3x camera?
An earlier report suggested that Samsung would remove the dedicated 3x shooter. If that happens, the 200MP main camera could handle 2x, 3x, and 4x zoom by cropping into its high-resolution sensor. The 5x telephoto would then take over for longer-range shots.
So, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra could still bring some changes to its zoom system, the big 4x camera upgrade now looks far from certain.
