As we know, September 2024 will unveil the all-new iPhone 16 series. However, there’s sufficient time to launch, and rumors about the 2025 iPhone 17 series are surfacing around the internet. There’s some fascinating news about the series, which we will discuss in this post.
The iPhone 17 series will likely get significantly bumped from what the predecessors offered, counting from a selfie camera and design to a smaller Dynamic island. The exciting news is that, unlike the previous models, the iPhone 17 will likely not have the “Plus” variant. The company will reportedly replace the “Plus” with the “Slim” model.
Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu (9to5Mac) claims that Apple will discontinue the iPhone 17 Plus to launch the iPhone 17 Slim. Now, this is a differentiating factor that the tech giant creates to distinguish their Pro models from the standard models.
Let’s take a glance at history. Starting with the iPhone 12 series, they brought the “mini” as a unique attraction. It was continued with the next generation as well. Then, the 14 series introduced the “Plus” model, replacing the “Mini” as the Pro model’s characteristic element. Now, the company is switching between the “Slim” and “Plus” as the unique aspect of the following year’s 17 series.
According to the source, the expected final iPhone 17 models will have the following display size:
- iPhone 17: 6.1 Inch Display.
- iPhone 17 Slim: 6.6 Inch Display (Compared to 6.7 Inch on the latest Plus variant).
- iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3 Inch Display.
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9 Inch Display.
Note: We know that the 16 Pro and Pro Max display sizes will likely be bumped up from 6.1 to 6.3 and from 6.7 Inches to 6.9 Inches, respectively. A similar situation will be the case with the next generation.
The basic ideology behind the moniker “Slim” aims at the iPhone’s slimness and lightweight construction. Android OEMs have already adopted the Slim concept a while back in their smartphones, and as always, Apple lacks behind. Finally, the company has realized that consumers require a comfortable smartphone to hold in their hands, so the “iPhone 17 Slim” arrives.
The same source says all three models (except Pro Max) will feature Aluminum construction. On the contrary, the 17 Pro Max is expected to come with a Titanium body. He adds that the iPhone will exclusively have a smaller Dynamic Island, irrespective of the other models possessing the same. The “Metalens” technology will likely help reduce the size of the Face ID sensor, thereby narrowing the Dynamic Island.
Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu’s analysis matches what was previously defined by Ross Young. The X post says that “the iPhone 17 Plus will feature a small screen size.” Not to mention, the previous 14 Plus and 15 Plus models have 6.7-inch display sizes, and per this, the smaller screen size can vary around 6.5 Inches.
As mentioned earlier, the Pu adds that the iPhone 17 Slim will feature a 6.6-inch display size. Considering this, the company likely wants to add an average display size between the Pro and the Pro Max variants. So, it’s like increasing the display sizes in an odd number configuration from 6.1, 6.3, and 6.6 to 6.9.
The Pu adds that the iPhone 17 and 17 Slim may feature a Bionic A18 or A19 chipset. The 17 Pro and Pro Max may feature the A19 Pro chipset. RAM upgrades are also expected; the top variant will feature 12GB RAM. The upcoming Apple 16 series can feature 8GB RAM across the entire lineup.
