Google has released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 for eligible Pixel devices, continuing development of the next Quarterly Platform Release. Google released the update on September 15 with two builds, focusing largely on system stability, interface bugs, and hardware-related issues.
Google’s official release notes list eight groups of fixes in the latest beta. They include unexpected device reboots during scrolling, camera crashes, Bluetooth audio distortion, and a touchscreen lockup triggered by the Google Wallet shortcut.
Eight bug fixes land in Beta 5
The most significant fix addresses a system stability problem that could cause unexpected reboots while continuously scrolling through media-heavy applications. Google has also fixed an issue where pressing the hardware volume buttons while casting media failed to display the system volume slider.
Bluetooth receives two separate fixes. Changing a Bluetooth device’s type in Settings now correctly updates its icon, while audio noise and distortion following a completed or answered call have also been addressed.
Other fixes cover several smaller but visible problems:

Two builds and an August security patch
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 carries build numbers CP41.260828.004.A8 and CP41.260828.005.A6. The beta uses the August 5, 2026 security patch level and Google Play Services version 26.28.33.
The update follows Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4, which arrived on August 28. QPR2 itself is a relatively incremental platform update, with Google describing it as including a minor SDK release and no planned behavior changes that would require significant compatibility work.
Google is also using QPR2 to introduce restrictions around programmatic call forwarding. Apps using TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest() can no longer use that API with only the CALL_PHONE permission to execute call-forwarding codes, while manually entered call-forwarding codes receive an operating-system confirmation prompt.
Beta 5 remains preview software
The update is intended for devices enrolled in Google’s Android Beta Program, not Pixel phones running the regular stable software channel. Google also provides factory images for supported devices, although switching between production and beta builds can require a full device reset depending on the direction of the transition.
Beyond Google’s documented fixes, early testing has identified some interface changes in Beta 5, including a new Audio streams Quick Settings tile for accessing active Auracast streams. Those changes are separate from the official bug-fix list and could still change before the final release.
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 is therefore less about adding a major new feature and more about tightening the software ahead of the next release milestone. With reboots, Bluetooth behavior, Wallet input, camera processing, and Private Space navigation addressed, the remaining QPR2 cycle will determine which newer interface changes make it into the final build.
