Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphones S9 and the S9+ is once again in the headlines. No doubt we have seen some partial real-life images but today with the release of exclusive factory CAD-based renders and a 360-degree video of the Galaxy S9 there is nothing left to the imagination. Recently it was confirmed that the smartphones along with its higher variant S9+ will have dual SIM support.
The CAD renders and the 360-degree video was released by the twitter user @OnLeaks who have a great track record of releasing smartphones renders before launch. The renders reveal that the Galaxy S9 sports a similar design like its predecessor, the Galaxy S8 but with notable differences. The fingerprint sensor is still at the rear of the device but it has been moved under the camera lens, which is great because of the complaints on the S8 fingerprint sensor location.
Not only that, the heart rate sensor has been moved to the right side of the primary camera module. Leaving that, the USB Type-C port, speaker, volume rocker, power and Bixby button all are placed similarly as the Galaxy S8. The new smartphone is also supposed to retain the old 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The display is massive and its lower elongated section looks very good. Rumours suggest the S9 bottom bezel is only 0.1mm slimmer than the one on the S8. The bezels are smaller and it speculated that the device has a screen ratio of up to 90%. From the previous report, the display is of 5.85 inches and the phone measures 147.6 x 68.7 x 8.4 mm. The same report suggested that the Galaxy S9 will sport dual camera setup on the rear but today’s renders show only a single camera at the rear. The dual cameras are probably for the Galaxy S9+.
As for the specs, the S9 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Samsung has started mass production of 512 GB flash storage modules for smartphones which hints that the top variant of the S9 may come with 512 GB of storage. The device runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The S9 will also come with an improved iris scanner.
The Galaxy S9 along with the Galaxy S9 Plus is expected to appear early and likely to be unveiled at CES 2018 next month, but according to new rumours it’s not true and the devices will be actually on sale later in the year which suggests it may make an appearance in the MWC 2018.
