Samsung launched the FE (Fan Edition) series in 2017 with the Galaxy Note FE. It was designed to offer a flagship-like experience at a more affordable price point. However, it was not a commercial success, and Samsung discontinued the series afterward.
In 2020, Samsung revived the FE series with the Galaxy S20 FE. The phone was more successful this time, thanks to flagship-like features at a competitive price point. The Galaxy S20 FE was well-received by critics and consumers alike, and it helped Samsung to revive the FE series.
After the S20 FE’s success, Samsung launched the S21 FE the following year. Unlike the S20 FE, the S21 FE was controversial because it was notorious for heating and battery drain. Seeing this, Samsung did not launch an S22 FE. There were rumors that Samsung was planning to cancel the FE series.
This all turned around when the S23 FE was leaked online (via SmartPrix/Onleaks), hinting at its potential launch. As it’s been a while since the initial rumors came, we have gotten fresh leaks confirming the phone’s likely to launch as soon as next month.
Earlier leaks had suggested that the Galaxy S23 FE would launch in Q3 of this year. Now, renowned tipster Yogesh Brar has backed up the claim by saying it might launch in September.
Regarding specs, the Galaxy S23 FE will be similar to the already existing Galaxy S23, with a few corners cut to reduce costs.
Under the hood, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 or Exynos 2200 will power the phone. Except for North America and some other regions, the phone will sell with the Exynos 2200 variant worldwide.
The phone display will be a 6.4-inch FHD+ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Moving forward regarding cameras, we might be looking at a triple camera setup. The 50MP primary camera with OIS, followed by an 8MP secondary camera, likely the Ultra-wide, and lastly, a 12MP telephoto lens. On the front, it is expected to be a 10MP shooter for selfies.
The phone is expected to pack in a 4500 mAh battery, which might support fast charging up to 25W. Additionally, the phone is expected to pack in other flagship features like IP rating and wireless charging.
In terms of the software, it is likely to be launching with One UI 5.1 based on Android 13. The phone might follow the company’s 4 Years of OS updates and 5 Years of Security Patches policy.
