HMD Global last year promised that an improved and updated camera app would be released for its Zeiss-enabled Nokia smartphones. We saw it with the launch of the Nokia 8 Sirroco, the Nokia 6 2018, and the Nokia 7 Plus, which came with the Pro mode camera. However, many users of the Nokia 8 flagship have expressed their disappointment over the delay of the Pro mode app. The company hinted at a Q2 2018 release but didn’t reveal any details until now. HMD CEO Juho Sarvikas, on his Twitter handle @sarvikas, confirmed the Pro mode camera app update for the Nokia 8 and explained its delay.
We need to overhaul the entire imaging framework. We have been working on it for months. Taking longer that I anticipated but now looks good. We will update shortly

According to his tweet, the company needed to overhaul the imaging framework, which they have worked on for months. This will not only help in low-light photography but also record better videos in low-light. Also, the update will make the only Nokia 8 smartphone to have an OIS with a Pro camera app. The OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) are a fantastic combo only seen in the recently launched OnePlus 6.
Last month, the Nokia Pro camera update APK was leaked by a Twitter user @MkeAllison, who revealed the photos are fast to capture, have better launch time, less lag, and UI is significantly better. Though the Bokeh and Portrait mode was not there, the final update will come with both features. The Pro mode manual view looked simple but is expected to come with controls like ISO, exposure, and shutter speed. This will help in better photo and video capturing in low light conditions. Had the Nokia 8 come pre-loaded with this app, the smartphone might as well be called a camera-centric phone appealing to the smartphone photographers out there.
