HMD Global Unveils Nokia 1, Nokia 6(2018), Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 8 Sirocco Smartphones at MWC 2018

After the long wait, HMD Global, the maker of the Nokia smartphones, is back for its launching spree. Last year, they launched 11 smartphones and shipped 70 million Nokia products. This year is no different, and the company started this year’s product lineup by launching the Nokia 1, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 8 Sirocco at the MWC 2018 event in Barcelona, Spain. Let’s take a look at these smartphones.

Nokia 1

Nokia 1 is a budget-segment smartphone with Android Oreo (Go Edition). It features a 4.5-inch WVGA display with a resolution of 450 x 854 pixels and is powered by a 1.1 GHz Quad-core chipset coupled with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage.

The device offers a 5 MP rear camera and a 2 MP camera on the front. It is backed by a 2150 mAh battery and comes with swappable back covers as part of the company’s Xpress-On trading filing. It has a price tag of $85 (Rs 5,500 approx.) and will be the first to launch in India. It will arrive sometime in April this year.

Nokia 6 (2018)

After its launch in China last month, HMD has launched the Nokia 6 (2018) globally. It is a mid-range segment smartphone and offers decent specs. It features a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of FHD (1980 x 1080 pixels). It is powered by a 2.2 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal space.

The smartphone offers a rear camera of 16 MP and a front 8 MP for video calling and selfies. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo and is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery with support for wireless charging alongside standard charging. The smartphone comes in three color options and features Face Unlock capabilities. It is available globally around April with a price tag of 279 euros. The smartphone will come to the Indian subcontinent around the end of June with an additional 3GB/32GB variant, according to Ajay Mehta, Vice President India of HMD Global.

Nokia 7 Plus

The Nokia 7 Plus is the company’s first 18:9 smartphone with a 6-inch display with a resolution of FHD (1980 x 1080 pixels). It is powered by an Octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset, Adreno 612 GPU, 4 GB RAM, and 64 GB internal space.

The Nokia 7 Plus is a gorgeous smartphone with different shades for the camera module. It has a fingerprint sensor at the rear. In the optics department, the smartphone features a dual camera setup at the back of 13 MP and a front 16 MP camera sensor. The device also offers a Pro camera, and all the Nokia devices with Zeiss optics will have this feature. There is also a new Nokia Imaging Suite feature, the company’s reply to Artificial Intelligence-aided selfies. It runs Android 8.0 and is backed by a 3,800 mAh battery.

The smartphone comes with a price tag of 399 euros and will be available globally around April. It is expected to go to India around the end of June.

Nokia 8 Sirocco

The last smartphone in the list is a flagship smartphone with a stainless steel body, diamond cuts, and a fingerprint sensor at the rear. It features a 5.50-inch display with a resolution of FHD+ (1440 x 2560 pixels). It is powered by a 1.9 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

It offers a dual camera setup at the rear of a 13 MP camera sensor and a front 5 MP wide angle (84-degree) camera lens for video calling and selfies. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo and is backed by a 3260 mAh battery. It also boasts IP68 water and dust certification and wireless charging support.

It comes with a price tag of 749 Euro (Rs 60,000 approx) and will come to the Indian market around May.

As for the recent developments, HMD Global also launched the banana-shaped Nokia 8110 4G and fixed a deal with Google that will join all the Nokia smartphones with Google’s Android One program, making this the biggest deal in the history of Android ever.
