Xiaomi Mi MiX 2s to Feature Sony IMX363, Firmware Confirms

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 was one of the stunning smartphones of last year. The bezel-less design with a massive display managed to capture many hearts. Now, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer will launch the Mi Mix 2S, whose firmware files were leaked, giving an insight into the device. This is not the first time details about the smartphone have been leaked. Last week, a teaser video of the smartphone surfaced on the Chinese media platform Weibo. The leak suggested the smartphone will sport a 6-inch 18:9 display, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and 8 GB RAM, 256 GB internal storage with 12 MP dual camera setup on the rear. The smartphone has also made an appearance on the Antutu benchmarking website.

Today’s firmware leak confirms the previous leak but also gives us new information. According to the firmware, the smartphone will feature a Sony IMX363 sensor. This dual camera setup will be the first for the smartphone series and carry additional features like scene recognition and other AI (artificial intelligence) tech. Though there will be the regular MIUI features, the object tracking, auto HDR, and Chroma Flash are marked as “false,” which suggests they may not be available in the final build.

As for the smartphone’s design, the new Mi Mix 2s sports a Full-Screen design 3.0 display in the available renders. It is a step ahead of the edge-to-edge displays. Though we can spot little side bezels, the bottom chin is smaller than the MI Mix 2. The front-facing camera is now shifted to the top right corner of the smartphone, which is barely noticeable.

Along with these features, the folks over XDA-Developers claim that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will come bundled with Android 8.0 Oreo, will have Dual SIM support and an IR blaster, and will be backed by a 3,400 battery. Regarding availability, it is speculated that Xiaomi canceled the launch of the Mi 7 at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2018, scheduled to be held at the end of this month. So, a huge tension is mounting for the Chinese company, which will likely unveil the Mi Mix 2S at the event.
