Xiaomi 13: Everything We Know So Far

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its next flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 13. The phone is expected to launch soon and will be a direct successor to the Xiaomi 12. It is rumored to come with many new features and improvements over its predecessor. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Xiaomi 13, including the release date, specifications, and price. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

Xiaomi 13 Release Date

  • Update: The Xiaomi 13 was released on December 14, 2022. It was announced on December 11, 2022.
Phones Release Date
Xiaomi Mi 11 December 28, 2020
Xiaomi 12 December 28, 2021
Xiaomi 13 December 14, 2022

There is no official information on the launch date of the Xiaomi 13 yet. However, we can speculate on the launch date based on past releases. The Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro were released on December 28, 2021. Also, the Mi 11 was released on December 28, 2020. This could mean that we can expect the launch of the Xiaomi 13 on the same date. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case this year. Let me explain.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which will power the Xiaomi 13, is set to be released on November 15, 2022. Usually, Xiaomi announces its smartphones as soon as the chipset is released. This means we can expect the Xiaomi 13 to launch earlier than usual, most likely by November 2022. However, this launch will only be in China. It will take several months for its launch in global and Indian markets. Since the Xiaomi 12 series launched in March in these regions, we expect the same with the Xiaomi 13.

Xiaomi 13 Expected Specifications

Xiaomi 13 will come with top-of-the-line specs, including the latest chip, the best display, cameras, and more. But before discussing the specs, let’s look at the design.

Design

Last week, an alleged live image of the Xiaomi 13 was spotted by Cool APK, revealing its rear design. From what we can see, the Xiaomi 13 has a triple camera setup. The camera module has two sensors stacked on the left and the third on the top right, with a horizontal LED flash beneath. We can also see that the camera module has the LASER branding, which could translate to laser autofocus. The back of the Xiaomi 13 is curved, meaning no flat sides. We can also see the Xiaomi 13 in black with a glossy finish. However, we can expect more color variants at launch.

Display

As for the display, the Xiaomi 13 will not disappoint you. The Xiaomi 13 is said to have a curved OLED display with narrower bezels than its predecessor. It will sport a 6.38-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (2712 x 1220 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is larger than last year and will have narrower bezels.

Processor

The Xiaomi 13 is one of the first phones to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will bring notable improvements over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which had several issues. Tipster Abhishek Yadav has shared the specs of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in a tweet, claiming that the Xiaomi 13 could be the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

The codename for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be SM8550. It will be based on TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process. This means the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be way more powerful and efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It will also have 8 CPU cores, including 1 x Cortex X3 core, 2 x A720 cores, 2 x A710 cores, and 3 x A510 cores. On the GPU side, it will have the Adreno 740 GPU. It will also have a new modem for 5G connectivity, Snapdragon X70. This modem can reportedly achieve download speeds of up to 10 Gb/s and upload speeds of around 3.5 Gb/s.

Camera

Now let’s talk about the most exciting part of the Xiaomi 13, the cameras. According to details shared by Digital Chat Station last month, the Xiaomi 13 could have two 50MP sensors. This includes the primary 50MP Sony IMX 989 1-inch sensor. We’ll also see a 50MP ultra-wide lens and a macro camera to complete the triple camera setup. There is no information about the front camera as of now.

Battery and Charging

The battery size of the Xiaomi 13 is still unknown. However, given the Xiaomi 13 Pro is getting a size increase (4860mAh), the Xiaomi 13 should also pack a larger battery. For instance, the Xiaomi 12 had a 4500mAh battery, while the 12 Pro had a 4600mAh battery. Nevertheless, the battery life should be incredible, just like last year.

As for the charging, a 3C certification revealed that the Xiaomi 13 would support 67W fast charging. This is perhaps due to the smaller size of the smartphone. Regardless, it could support fast wireless charging up to 50W and reverse wireless charging.

Software

The Xiaomi 13 will run on MIUI 14 based on Android 13. A recent leak revealed that Xiaomi had tested MIUI 14 on the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro. MIUI 14 will bring design changes and improvements to the overall UI stability. Like last year, MIUI 14 will likely be announced alongside the Xiaomi 13 series.

Here’s the list of Xiaomi 13 Specifications (Rumoured):

  • 6.38-inch curved OLED 120Hz display
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset
  • 8GB/12GB RAM + 128GB/256GB storage
  • 50MP (IMX 989) + 50MP (Ultra-wide) + Macro camera
  • 4500mAh battery with 67W Fast Charging
  • MIUI 14 based on Android 13

Xiaomi 13 Price Prediction

  • The Xiaomi 13 could be priced at CNY 3699 in China. If Xiaomi plans to launch the Xiaomi 13 in India, it could be priced at INR 49,999.

There is no official or leaked information on the price of the Xiaomi 13. However, we can speculate the price based on past releases. The Xiaomi 12 was launched at CNY 3699 (approximately INR 43,657). So, we can expect the Xiaomi 13 to launch around the same price range. As for the price in Europe, the Xiaomi 13 could retail for €899. To recall, the Xiaomi 12 was launched at €869.

That’s all we know about the upcoming Xiaomi 13. It will be the beginning of the next generation of Xiaomi flagships. Note that the above information is just leaks and rumors, and the specifications and price may vary. So, what are your thoughts on the upcoming Xiaomi 13? Let us know in the comments section below.
