Qualcomm Snapdragon 875: Everything We Know So Far

Qualcomm’s next-generation chipset will be built on the TSMC’s 5nm process

Snapdragon releases a new top of the line processor under their 800 series every year. This time around it was the Snapdragon 865 that is already running in several flagship phones. Now, Qualcomm being Qualcomm, they have started their work for their next flagship processor, the Snapdragon 875. Nothing much known about this processor, that is until a while ago. However, tech website 91Mobiles was able to get a hold the specifications of this upcoming flagship processor and we have compiled everything we know so far in this article.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 Processor

TSMC has reportedly begun production of the Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship processor which will probably be called Snapdragon 875. It will be built on TSMC’s 5nm manufacturing process. And as for the chip, we know that it will have an integrated 5G built onto it. The Snapdragon 865 SoC comes together with the Snapdragon X55 5G modem and any manufacturer using the Snapdragon 865 meant that they had to buy this 5G modem chip along with the processor. This meant a high price to pay for the manufacturer. But the good news about the upcoming Snapdragon 875 is that it will come with the Snapdragon X60 modem on board. So the additional cost of buying the modem and chip together will now be resolved. The X60 modem from Qualcomm has already been released by the company but we will see it in full function only after it officially launches with the Snapdragon 875 in 2021.

As for the cores of this processor, we will see a custom Kryo 685 CPU which is built on ARM’s V8 Cortex, along with Adreno 660 GPU, and a Spectra 580 ISP for handling the image processing tasks. Additionally, the chipset will be bundled with Adreno 665 VPU (video processing unit) and the Adreno 1095 DPU (display processing unit). Also, the chipset will likely use a 1+3+4 CPU arrangement.

As per 91Mobiles, other confirmed additional key features and specifications of Snapdragon 875 includes:

  • Snapdragon Sensors Core
  • Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec WCD9380 and WCD9385 in Low-power audio subsystem
  • Compute Hexagon DSP
  • Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX)

  • Quad-channel PoP high-speed LPDDR5 SDRAM
  • External 802.11ax, 2×2 MIMO, and Bluetooth Milan
  • Secure Processing Unit (SPU250)

Tipster Digital Chat Station via Twitter claims that the Snapdragon 875 will arrive with 100W fast charging support and will be marketed as a gaming phone perk.
