Snapdragon 7 Gen 3: Supported Phones and Features

Regarding naming conventions for their SoCs, the Snapdragon has been inconsistent over the last few months. Snapdragon and MediaTek are powerful chip-manufacturing companies launching competitive processors in every price segment.

However, both of them are struggling to name their chips correctly lately. The Qualcomm Snapdragon is also on the list, confusing the consumers because of their bizarre processor names. The Snapdragon 7 series is at the top of the list here.

The company has recently launched the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. Going by its name, it should succeed the previous generation, namely, 7 Plus Gen 2, but this is not the case here. As per leaks, it lies somewhere between the 7s Gen 2 and 7 Plus Gen 2.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Specifications and Features

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 has a model number SM7550. The new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 comes with the KryoCPU. It is based on 64-bit architecture. An ARM Cortex-A715 primary core clocked at 2.63GHz, three performance cores (Cortex-A715) at 2.4GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.8GHz.

For comparison with the predecessor (Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2), the primary core is clocked at 2.91GHz, three performance cores (Cortex-A710) @ 2.49GHz, and the remaining four efficiency cores (Cortex-A510) @ 1.8GHz.

In addition, the Adreno 720 GPU will power the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor. TSMC manufactures it based on a 4nm process.

As per the company, the CPU performance is improved by 15% compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Yes, Qualcomm actually calls the new chip a successor to the 7 Gen 1 instead of the 7+ Gen 2. It uses a Cortex-A715 prime core instead of the 2.91GHz Cortex X2 present on 7+ Gen 2.

The company also says the GPU performance has increased by 50% compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. This is huge, as the previous version offered double the performance of the 7 Gen 1. However, the new chipset uses Adreno 720 GPU instead of the 725 used inside the 7+ Gen 2, as discussed earlier.

Regarding the features, the chipset consists of a Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF System and 5G Dual-SIM Dual-Active. This helps to simultaneously use the two 5G or 5G/4G SIM cards. The SoC supports the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 Mobile Connectivity System for better Bluetooth connectivity. It also offers features to improve location accuracy, further improving user experience.

With the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, the Qualcomm AI Engine now offers 60% better performance per watt. It now has the Qualcomm Spectra Image Signal Processor, improving Triple 12-bit ISPs. In terms of the power efficiency, it offers 20% better performance.

Concerning other camera features, it provides 4K HDR video recording @ 60FPS, Slow-mo video capture at 1080P @120FPS, Bokeh Engine for video capture, and more.

The SoC supports Visual Subsystems enabling HDR gaming, Physically Based and volumetric Rendering, and more. It also features security improvements, Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 Technology, and DDR-5 memory up to 3200MHz.

7 Gen 3 Specifications

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Supported Phones

Since the chipset is now officially revealed, the significant brands and OEMs will try to use them in their upcoming smartphone. The company has primarily confirmed some of the launches given below:

  • Qualcomm said that Vivo and HONOR will be among the first brands to use the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The launch may take place this month itself in China.
  • Huawei’s CEO also confirmed they will launch the HONOR X100 with the new chipset on November 23.
  • A popular tipster, Yogesh Brar, also confirmed that Redmi will participate in the launch of their smartphone with the new SoC in Q1 2024.

Apart from the above list, many other brands may join by launching their smartphones with the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

Let’s see how Qualcomm will settle the new chipset between the two powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2. We have to wait and see how the chip will locate its position in the crowded market with its processors and the competition.

It is also important to note that the previous processor, namely, the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2, was only available with the Poco F5 5G (India). The reason may be the pricing, as other OEMs and brands opt for alternative options like MediaTek, which offers an economical pricing option compared to the Snapdragon 7 series.

Let’s wait and hope for many other brands to join, as the chipset has potential and can be given to the commercial market with an affordable price tag. Many brands will likely participate this time with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, and the scheduled brand’s list holds Vivo, HONOR, and Redmi.

That said, let’s wait for the official announcements from the respective brands planning to use the new SoC. What are your thoughts on the latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 3? What do you think of its competitors? Do you like its features and specifications? Let us know in the comments section below. We will update the post as soon as something new pops up.
