Samsung October 2022 Security

Samsung October 2022 Security Patch Update Now Available on Several Galaxy Phones

Just as September 2022 ended, Samsung started pushing the October 2022 update for a handful of its phones. According to SamMobile, the October 2022 security patch update fixes over 50 security vulnerabilities. This includes 32 of Google’s fixes and 18 from Samsung’s team.

Before this update, unauthorized users could acquire call information, the device’s serial number, configuration information, secure memory content, and perform malicious operations due to some of these vulnerabilities. Attackers could access memory access problems on some Galaxy smartphones equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855+ and Snapdragon 865 chipsets. Other flaws allowed unauthorized users to use Bluetooth to access the device’s MAC address and execute programs.

Here are all the devices that will receive the October 2022 Security Patch update

• Galaxy S series

The Galaxy S22, S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra are the first ones to get this security update. It’s no wonder since these are Samsung’s latest flagship non-foldable phones. Alongside these, the other phones from the Galaxy S series to receive the update are the Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S21 FE, and S20 FE 5G.

Reportedly, Verizon is now rolling out an October 2022 update to S20 FE, S21 FE, and S21 FE (2022) in the US. In Germany, Galaxy S21 series owners are getting the update.

• Galaxy Note Series

Early this year, Samsung announced that their iconic Galaxy Note line-up was officially ditched. That is, there would be no phones launching under the Galaxy Note series in the future unless Samsung decides to bring this line-up back.

The last phones of this series are from the Galaxy Note 20 series. Thankfully, Samsung has not ended support for these devices yet. The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra have started getting the October 2022 update in the US.

• Galaxy Fold and Flip Series

The foldable category of smartphones has a niche audience as of now. Though, its market has been slowly but surely growing over the years. Samsung currently leads this market, as their foldable phones are quite good and provide a nice experience to the user. Besides, there is not much competition from the rival brands. So that, as well, is a contributing factor for Samsung in dominating this market.

The Galaxy Fold 5G, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and the Galaxy Z Flip are also getting the October 2022 update.

Interestingly, there is no news about the newer Galaxy Folds (Z Fold 3 and Z Fold 4) and Galaxy Flips (Z Flip 3 and Z Flip 4). All of them are still on the September 2022 security patch.

• Galaxy A series

The Galaxy A series caters to the midrange smartphone audience. It consists of various sub-series, the most popular ones being the A0x, A1x, A2x, A3x, A5x, and A7x series. The Galaxy A02 is now receiving the October 2022 update.
