Redmi 5G Phone in the Works, Could it be the Redmi X?

The news about Redmi 5G came from Xiaomi’s Global spokesperson, Director of Product Management Donovan Sung

Realme just made an announcement a few days ago about a 5G phone coming later this year, and now Xiaomi’s budget sub-brand Redmi has also announced a new 5G phone of their own. Xiaomi already has a 5G phone on the market, in the form of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 5G. But it is more on the premium side of Xiaomi. Every other smartphone brand is out there working to provide new 5G devices. Even the budget-friendly brands of India, Realme and Redmi are going ahead with their plans on the device.

Realme’s remark on the launch date was an unofficial one as they just made a statement saying it will be launched later this year. So probably a Q4 phone of 2019. CEO of Realme Mobiles India Madhav Seth made this announcement. Xiaomi followed it up with an official wording about a new 5G device launching soon.

The news came from Xiaomi’s Global spokesperson, Director of Product Management Donovan Sung, but nothing else is known for certain. Not even a name is given for this new device from Xiaomi, but there was a caption on twitter saying “#Redmi x #5G”. This means the name of the device could be Redmi X, but even that is not certain. So could it be the Redmi X killing it in the 5G market of smartphones soon?

The 5G phone that is already on the market from Xiaomi is the Xiaomi Mi Mix 5G with a 6.39-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. This premium device comes with the 5G mandatory Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. Among the other departments, this 5G phone from Xiaomi comes with a dual lens setup on the back with a bunch of AI capabilities. Both lenses on the back are 12 MP shooters, but on the front, we have a 24MP sensor with a 2MP secondary sensor. This secondary sensor allows for better portrait selfies.

Among the little things, we have a 3800 mAh battery with support for quick charge 4.0. And the device runs on Android Pie out of the box with Xiaomi’s very own MIUI 10.
