OnePlus Open Foldable Launch Date Delayed, But for a Good Reason

OnePlus, a company known for a flagship experience at a cheaper price, is almost done working on the company’s first-ever folding phone, the OnePlus Open.

According to tipster Max Jambor, the product was supposed to be unveiled on August 29th but has been postponed. This news may seem disappointing for a few, but it’s for a good reason.

OnePlus Open was originally supposed to use the Chinese manufacturer BOE’s display panels. Still, it did not meet the standard OnePlus wanted, so they are shifting to Samsung panels that meet the company’s standard but also caused a delay.

It’s speculated that OnePlus Open will be based on its parent company’s Oppo Find N2, but it’s very unlikely because of different display dimensions and processors.

A while ago, the renders of the OnePlus Open had been leaked on the internet, giving us an idea of the design, and so far, it looks like the design will stay.

The OnePlus Open is expected to have great specifications like Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 2, 16GB LPDDR5x RAM, and 256 GB UFS 4.0 internal Storage. Although the display supplier has changed, the specs will remain unchanged, with a large 7.8-inch 2k foldable AMOLED display and a 6.3-inch AMOLED panel on the outside.

The OnePlus Open is expected to have a triple-lens rear camera system with Hasselblad branding. The main sensor will be a 50MP IMX890 with optical image stabilization (OIS), followed by a 48MP IMX581 ultrawide sensor and a 64MP 3x periscope telephoto sensor.

Two selfie cameras will suffice for the two displays, with the outer display featuring a 32MP sensor and the inner display a 20MP one.

In terms of design, OnePlus Open is expected to be similar to the company’s this year’s flagship, OnePlus 11.

After the OnePlus Open, the company’s next big launch is expected to be the OnePlus 12, succeeding the company’s current successful flagship, the OnePlus 11, which launched late last year in China and early this year Globally.
