List of Old Samsung Devices Getting Galaxy AI Features

Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy S24 Series. The lineup consisted of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. These devices have plenty of differences in specifications and price but have one thing in common: Galaxy AI. This time, Samsung focuses on software and AI features much more than hardware upgrades.

Galaxy AI is Samsung’s Artificial Intelligence software baked into their latest S24 lineup. It brings various innovative and fun features that use AI. But many wonder whether they’ll make it to their older phones since much of it is software-based.

Galaxy AI is coming to these older Samsung devices

  • Galaxy S23 series: S23, S23+, S23 Ultra
  • Galaxy S23 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold 5
  • Galaxy Z Flip 5
  • Galaxy Tab S9 series: S9, S9+, S9 Ultra

The Galaxy Unpacked event heavily marketed the AI aspect of these phones. Initially, these features were considered exclusive to the Galaxy S24 lineup. However, that’s not the case.

Currently, Galaxy AI is available only on devices running One UI 6.1, which is only the Galaxy S24 Series. Due to this, we can expect Galaxy AI to come to older models like Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE, etc. Samsung will bring Galaxy AI features even to their foldable lineup of phones, the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. Samsung has already confirmed this to Android Authority.

In the statement, Samsung says, “Many of the Galaxy AI features introduced on Galaxy S24 will also be supported on previous models including Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series within 1H 2024. Please stay tuned for more details.”

We are unsure if all the Galaxy AI features are coming to older models or only some. We don’t know if all the features will make it to the older models. Samsung didn’t disclose which features older phones will get with the One UI 6.1 update. Some features that require more powerful hardware will not come to older models. We expect all supported Samsung phones to get One UI 6.1 before June 2024 or earlier. Unfortunately, Samsung doesn’t say anything about the A series models getting these features or even the S22 lineup- so it’s mostly the S23 lineup and above.

Galaxy AI features

Instant Slo-Mo: This feature lets the users convert any normal video from their gallery to a 120fps Slo-Mo. The user has to tap and hold on the screen for the feature to work. It also makes 120fps Slo-Mo into a 240fps Slo-Mo. This is possible using frame interpolation technology (inserting artificial frames between real frames), which Galaxy AI uses.

Live translate: With the help of this feature, two users speaking different languages can have a translation in real-time. The phone instantly translates conversations in a split-screen view of two people standing opposite each other.

Chat Assist: When using the Samsung keyboard, users can rephrase their sentences or edit their tonality. It can also translate messages in real time in 13 different languages. Additionally, it can also create captions for social media.

Circle to search: This feature was made in collaboration with Google, so it’s not exclusive to the Galaxy S24 Series. However, it’s still useful, so it is worth mentioning. With this feature, users can long-press the home button and use either their finger or s-pen to circle an object on their screen. When they do this, a small window opens at the bottom with information and a pictorial representation of the selected object.
