As we know from recent developments, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 series is very unlikely to come out anytime soon. The full lineup may become available as far as even 2025.
However, it seems like NVIDIA is still not done with the 40 series. They apparently have one more mainstream product to add to their portfolio before we see the GeForce RTX 50 series.
Leaker Reveals Details of New GeForce RTX 4070 Variant
A leaker recently shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), which features some details of an upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 variant. As per the leaker, this new variant will come with 20Gbps GDDR6 video memory.
The standard RTX 4070, in contrast, comes with GDDR6X memory along with all its other variants. Also, the standard RTX 4070 is rated at a slightly faster 21Gbps. This will result in a slight loss in performance, but it should not be that noticeable.
Besides that, this new RTX 4070 variant will come with a PG141 SKU 347 PCB. Other specifications are to stay the same per the source, which means the pricing will likely be similar. The launch date and actual price of the product also remain unclear.
This news comes at a time when there is a shortage of GDDR6 memory in the industry. In fact, recent reports claim that NVIDIA is planning to reduce the production of its GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards by a massive 50%. Most of this production cut will be for high-end cards, especially the RTX 4070 and the ones above it. This could also potentially result in a price hike across affected models. It is likely that NVIDIA is doing this to make way for their upcoming RTX 50 series graphics cards.
While things are normal as of now, they may not remain the same in the coming weeks or even days. So, if you have been planning to get one of the RTX 40 series cards, this might be the right time to go ahead and make the purchase. Alternatively, you could wait for the new launches from NVIDIA and rival brands like AMD.
