For a while, there have been various leaks about the launch of a foldable iPhone soon. While initial leaks were confused about whether Apple would make an open-book style foldable phone or a flip phone, many recent leaks point to the former. Apple will most likely launch a productivity, multitasking, and multimedia-focused open-book style foldable phone, as opposed to the fashion-focused flip style.
Noted tipster Digital Chat Section reports the resolutions and the size of the upcoming iPhone Fold. As per the leak, the size of the display is around 7.76″ when unfolded, which is slightly larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which comes in at 7.6″ when unfolded. The outer screen is apparently 5.49″, which is smaller than Samsung’s 6.3″ outer screen, which is too narrow for proper operation.
The inner display apparently uses a display with a 2,713 x 1,920 resolution. This is well over 1440P or 2K, and it will ensure that content remains crisp. The outer display (the smaller one) will reportedly use a 2,088 x 1,422 resolution, which is fairly standard for a screen of that size. The report also states that the outer screen will use a regular punch-hole camera on the outside. The leaks do not mention anything about Dynamic Island.
The inner display’s leaks are surprising as well. Instead of using any cutouts, Apple is apparently working on under-display camera technology. This will make the entire display seamless, without any interruptions.
As per older leaks from DCS, the aspect ratio of the inner folding display is 4:3. The display dimensions were leaked as well. The 5.49″ outer screen is fairly similar to the Oppo Find N5, but the overall device is shorter. The leaks say the aspect ratio is “unprecedented,” so we’ll have to wait for more information. While the track record of this leaker is mixed, they have accurately predicted information about the 12 Mini’s display, the size increase to 6.3″ of the 16 Pro, and the new 48MP main sensor of the base iPhone 15. That makes these leaks worth looking at.
Apple is working on making the foldable device entirely crease-free. This requires very advanced hinge technology and one that’s not conventional or used anywhere before. Another reliable leaker, Ming-Chi Kuo, also corroborates these leaks and describes the inner screen as crease-free.
Apple might launch the foldable iPhone either in late 2026 or 2027, around the same time as the foldable iPad. The leaks state that mass production might begin in the second half of 2026
The price tag might go up to 2000$. Some rumors state that the device will use Under Display Face ID for the first time, which we might also see with the iPhone 18 Pro models. Other leaks say it’ll completely abandon Face ID in favor of Touch ID. This will give them more internal space to work with. It’ll likely feature a dual-camera array.
