While OEMs like Samsung and Oppo have been releasing foldable phones for the past few years, Apple is still behind in the race. We have been hearing rumors only so far about Apple’s upcoming first foldable device.
It seems the foldable iPhone is still far away, with a rumored release window in the second half of 2026. One reason for delaying its launch reportedly includes a visible display crease in the unfolded state — an issue in existing foldable devices.
Thankfully, the issue appears to have now been resolved — by developing a new material property that makes the crease disappear, ETNews reports.
The report further says that Apple wants to differentiate its foldable phone from existing models by offering a crease-free design, regardless of cost. If this pans out, Apple will have a competitive advantage in the foldable smartphone market. There’s chatter that Samsung Display could be the exclusive supplier of the OLED panels for Apple’s foldable device.
Speaking of its design, the foldable iPhone could have a book-style look, meaning an inward folding mechanism, which is similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold models.
As for display sizes, rumor suggests the foldable iPhone will likely boast a 5.49-inch outer screen and a 7.74-inch inner screen (when unfolded).
