iPhone 16E (SE 4) Dummy Unit Images Surface Online

Apple’s iPhone SE series is their most affordable phone. Apple doesn’t update these models yearly, unlike its standard lineup. However, when they do, there are usually big changes.

Currently, we’re on the iPhone SE 3, the third one from the series. The first iPhone SE was launched in early 2016. Apple makes them more affordable by reusing many components from older iPhones with the processor from the latest.

iPhone 16E dummy units leaked

The iPhone 16E is due in a couple of months, and there are many new changes compared to the iPhone SE 3. Sonny Dickson, a tipster on X (formerly Twitter), has leaked the dummy unit images of the iPhone 16E (aka iPhone SE 4). The dummy units are used as molds to make cases for the upcoming device.

From the dummy unit images, we can see the phone aligns with the predictions of many previous leaks. At the rear, there is a single camera with an LED flash and a microphone. Rumors say the single rear camera is a 48MP snapper like many newer iPhones, though it’s not confirmed. The sides are flat and house the volume buttons, mute switch, and the SIM tray on the left. Unfortunately, it will not have an ultrawide camera, which will create some differentiation from the base iPhones.

For the display, the iPhone 16E is expected to use the same 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED 60Hz display as the iPhone 14. It also has the exact notch cutout with FaceID and other sensors. For the selfie camera, it’s the same 12MP snapper as the iPhone 14. As the base iPhones have moved to the Dynamic Island design, it’s now time for the SE models to get the notch.

To power this phone, Apple uses the same A18 chip as the iPhone 16, coupled with 8GB RAM. With these specs, we can confirm it will support Apple Intelligence like the entire iPhone 16 line-up. Charging and data transfer will be done with the Type-C port Apple adopted recently. Unfortunately, we don’t expect it to have anything more than USB-C 2.0 transfer speeds.

iPhone 16E vs previous iPhone SE’s

All in all, Apple seems to be going for a bit of a different route with this compared to previous iPhone SE devices. This one has its own unique body and camera setup. The iPhone SE 1 had the body of the iPhone 5s and the processor of the iPhone 6s. iPhone SE 2 did with iPhone 8’s body and processor from iPhone 11. iPhone SE 3 also had the iPhone 8’s body but the processor of the iPhone 13.

The new iPhone SE doesn’t recycle the body of any older iPhone. Instead, it’s a newly put-together device and a trimmed-down base iPhone model. Whatever it is, it is a good decision by Apple to release a successor finally.

iPhone SE 3 is quite dated for today’s standards, considering most of its hardware is from 7+ years ago. Hopefully, the iPhone SE 2025 will start at 128GB of storage since 64GB will be too low in 2025. We can expect around a $450 price tag and $500 in the worst case, that’s still $200 lower than the base iPhone 16.
