What’s New in the iPhone 15 Series?
1. Improved Cameras
The cameras of the iPhone 15 series have gotten significant upgrades. First, the vanilla and the Plus models now have a 48MP new sensor. On the other hand, the Pro and the Pro Max models feature new periscope lenses with up to 3x and 5x zoom, respectively. Apart from that, the software tuning has also been refined. Enhanced ISP (Image Signal Processor) from the new chip will also improve the overall output.
2. New Connecting Port
One of the major complaints of most people with iPhones was the lightning port. Almost all devices launched in recent years have USB Type C ports. Even most of the other devices by Apple feature it. This made the existence of the lightning port on iPhones quite a nuisance. This was because it had slower data transfer speeds and was inconvenient as people had to carry an extra cable for their iPhones. However, thanks to new EU regulations, Apple has finally switched to USB Type C ports for iPhones, starting from the iPhone 15 series.
3. Better Battery and Charging Speeds
Apple has bumped up the physical battery capacity across all models of the iPhone 15 series. Pair that with the efficient chips; these iPhones will deliver fascinating battery life.
4. Dynamic Island
The Dynamic Island is not really new since the iPhone 14 series from last year already features it. However, it was only available to the Pro and Pro Max models. The other two models sported the notch. With the iPhone 15 series, all models — the base, the Plus, the Pro, and the Pro Max — will have it. This puts an end to the notch that we first saw in the iPhone X.
The Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped punch hole for the unaware. Apple has integrated a lot of cool features and visuals with it. Apple has also refined the Dynamic Island as a whole with iOS 17.
5. A17 Pro Chip
The chipset also got an upgrade over last year. The new iPhone 15 (Pro) series features the A17 Pro. It is based on TSMC’s new 3nm process. The iPhone 15 series is the first in the world to be powered by chips based on a 3nm process. This will bring significant improvements in the performance of the phones. Apart from that, the iPhone 15 series will also benefit from the refined GPU. Note that this new chip is only available on the Pro models of the iPhone 15 series. The vanilla and the Plus models feature last year’s A16 Bionic chip with a few enhancements. However, both of these chips can handle all sorts of workloads.
6. Better Build Quality and Design
In addition to all of the upgrades mentioned above, Apple has also introduced some changes to the design and build of the iPhone 15 series. The models have slimmer bezels that give them a sleek and stylish look. Besides that, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max come with a titanium frame. The cherry on the cake is the new color options for all the models.
In addition to all of this, the Pro and the Pro Max models sport an action button. It is a replacement for the iconic mute switch. This button is customizable, as we can set it to perform different tasks. It is set to carry out the function of the mute switch by default.
The vanilla iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus come in five colors — black, blue, green, pink, and yellow. The iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max come in four colors — blue, black, silver, and white.
The iPhone 15 series will be available in stores from the 22nd of September. The prices are $799, $899, $999, and $1199 for the iPhone 15 (128GB), iPhone 15 Plus (128GB), iPhone 15 Pro (128GB), and the iPhone 15 Pro Max (256GB), respectively.
