Huawei Nova 3E Goes Official in China with World’s First 24 MP IMX578 Selfie Shooter

Chinese smartphone manufacturer unveiled the Nova 3E smartphone today at an event in China. It’s essentially a variant of the Huawei P20 Lite smartphone that was launched in Poland and the Czech Republic last week.

The new smartphone comes with the same design seen on recent Huawei smartphones with minor changes like the top-notch, which makes the top bezel smaller, while the lower bezel contains the company logo without changes in size. The back has a 2.5D glass back design, which also houses the fingerprint sensor. The phone measures 148.6 x 71.2 x 7.4 mm and weighs 145 grams.

As for the specs, the Huawei Nova 3E features a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of FHD+ (2280 x 1080 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19:9 because of the notch. It is powered by the company’s Octa-core Kirin 659 chipset coupled with 4 GB RAM. It has two variants of internal storage, 64 GB and 128 GB, and comes with expandable memory options up to 256 GB with micro SD card.

If you look at the mentioned specs, it is very much standard among the Huawei and Honor devices. But what sets it apart from its camera configuration? The smartphone is being marketed as a Selfie beast sporting the world’s first 24 MP Sony IMX578 sensor with f/2.0 aperture on the front. The new sensor claims a 20% increase in resolution, a 33% decrease in noise in low-light images, and a 26% increase in color reproduction. It is a selfie-centric smartphone with features like beauty algorithms, hardware-level HDR, LCD smart light, and more. At the back, it features a dual camera setup of 16 MP primary sensors and a 2 MP secondary sensor to capture bokeh shots.

The Huawei Nova 3E runs EMUI 8 based on Android 8.0 Oreo and is backed by a small 3,000 mAh with support for 18W (9V 2A) fast charging. Additional features include Face Unlock, Game mode, a 3.5 mm jack, and an intelligent voice assistant. Connectivity features include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, and USB TYPE-C. The device will be available in four color options – Klein Blue, Cherry Powder, Magic Night Black, and Platinum Gold.

As for the pricing, the Nova 3E comes with a price tag of 1999 Yuan for the 64 GB ROM model, while the bigger 128 GB ROM variants cost 2199 Yuan. The pre-sale started today at 6 PM but will go on sale from March 27. At this moment, there is no word about the international release.
