Alongside a flourishing smartphone business, Samsung has a strong presence in the Android tablet market. It primarily sells its tablets under two lineups — the flagship Galaxy Tab S series and the midrange Galaxy Tab A series. Speaking of the Tab S series, the latest generation Tab S8 series consists of three models — the standard, Plus, and Ultra models. This is in line with the Galaxy S series phones.
As we wait for Samsung to launch the all-new Galaxy Tab S9 series, an exciting finding is making rounds online. You may have heard about the Galaxy S23 FE being in the works. Now, it looks like Samsung has similar plans for the Galaxy Tab S9 series, and we may see two more models added to the lineup in addition to the standard three.
Recently, the scores of two devices whose model numbers correspond to the Galaxy Tab S9 series have been spotted on Geekbench. The scores and model numbers are lower-end devices than the regular three models of this series.
The names of these models are not confirmed yet, though it is likely that Samsung will launch them under the Fan Edition naming. If it is so, then the model numbers of the entire Galaxy Tab S9 series would likely be as follows :
- Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra — SM-X916
- Galaxy Tab S9+ — SM-X816
- Galaxy Tab S9 — SM-X716
- Galaxy Tab S9 FE — SM-X516B, SM-X616B
As seen on Geekbench, both devices have the motherboard and governor marked ‘s5e8835‘ and ‘energy_ware,’ respectively. This implies that both are powered by the Exynos 1380 chipset, the same as the Galaxy A54 5G. The Plus and the Ultra models will come with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset onboard. The processor on the Tab S9 is still unknown, as it has not been found on Geekbench yet.
Moving ahead, the details on Geekbench revealed that the device with the model number SM-X516B would come with 6 GB of RAM. On the other hand, the device with the model number SM-X616B will come with 8 GB of RAM. This suggests that the latter might have a larger display and a higher price than the former. Speaking of scores, they both perform similarly. However, the scores in the final device may vary slightly since these are likely pre-production handsets.
Coming to the software, they will both run on Android 13 with a version of One UI 5 for tablets.
The specifics of the launch can only be speculated at this point, as there is no official statement from Samsung regarding this. They may launch it along with the rest of the Galaxy Tab S9 series at the Unpacked event, which will be held in the third quarter of this year. Or else, they can even launch these two models earlier since the Galaxy Tab S7 FE was announced in May and launched in June of 2021.
