Samsung security update may 2023

Samsung May 2023 Security Update Rolling out for Several Galaxy Devices

Regarding providing the latest updates on time, Samsung is currently at the top in the Android smartphone market. Even low-end Samsung devices get updated timely, ensuring the security and privacy of the users’ data. Besides that, the latest features are also provided with these updates. Speaking of software support, that too is exceptional, with flagships getting four years of major Android upgrades on top of five years of security patch updates. This is as per their revised policy for software updates.

Now that May has started, Samsung has started rolling out the security update for May 2023 to several Galaxy devices across all of its lineups, with a host of fixes and the latest security patch.

What to expect in the May 2023 update?

Every month, Google releases a list of security issues and vulnerabilities in Android in the Android Security Bulletin. Similarly, for May, they pointed out some more. With this update, Samsung is rolling out fixes for these and some more issues exclusive to Samsung devices. The total number of flaws fixed is seventy-two: six classified as critical, fifty-six classified as high, and ten as moderate.

It is worthwhile to note that Samsung had released fixes for two of the flaws mentioned by Google in the May 2023 security patch, with the update released last month (April 2023) for Galaxy devices.

Which Galaxy devices will get the May 2023 update?

Samsung first releases the latest updates for their highest-end Galaxy S series devices. So, it is given that these would be the ones to get the updates before the others. All Galaxy S series phones, starting from the Galaxy S20 series, are currently being updated monthly.

Other devices will get the update soon after these. All the eligible devices for this update will likely be updated in the next week or two.

As of now, Galaxy S23 Series, Galaxy A23, Galaxy Tab S8 Series, Galaxy A33, Galaxy A52, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy M53, Galaxy S22 Series, and Galaxy Note 20 4G/5G users have started receiving May 2023 Security Update in phases.

How to check if you have received the update?

You will receive a notification when you get the May 2023 Security Patch Update. But if you still want to check it manually, read the steps below.

Head into the Settings app of your Galaxy device, then scroll down. You will see an option named Software Update. Tap on it and then tap on Download and Install. If you have received the update, you will see the change log and an option to download the update. Once the update is downloaded, you can install it immediately or schedule it for later.

However, if you have not received the update, you will see a message telling you that your device is updated to the latest version of the software available.
