OnePlus Fold release

OnePlus Fold: Everything We Know So Far

The OnePlus Fold might launch in global markets soon. OnePlus is looking to enter the market of foldable phones soon, and it has a lot of potential. The foldable market is gaining very healthy competition in 2023.

Until 2022, Samsung maintained a steady lead in foldable phones. Their phones had proper water resistance, sound camera processing, and, most importantly, the software experience. How a company refines the software is arguably the most critical aspect of a foldable phone.

Unlike Flip or clamshell-style foldable phones, which are built for fashion and selfies, these open-book-style foldable phones are made for productivity. They’re made for multimedia consumption and multitasking, and essentially, they fit a mini-tablet in your pocket thanks to the foldable form factor.

In 2023, we first saw the Tecno Phantom V Fold, which offers an impressive spec sheet and boasts a starting price nearly half that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. This year, we also saw the Google Pixel Fold. The primary selling point is Google’s software and their take on how Android should work on a multitasking and productivity device that fits your pocket.

Motorola recently launched the Razr 40 Ultra, but this is not a phone to compare the OnePlus Fold to. The Moto phone is a clamshell-style Flip phone, not a full open-book foldable. A major competitor for the upcoming OnePlus Fold is the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5. We already have the Tecno Phantom V Fold, which has aggressive pricing.

OnePlus Fold Release Window

According to an exclusive leak from Pricebaba, the announcement of the OnePlus Fold will take place in the first two weeks of August. Yogesh Brar on Twitter, according to Pricebaba, informs that the launch event of the OnePlus Fold is rapidly approaching, and it’ll join the list of excellent OnePlus phones that already come out this year.

The OnePlus 11, OnePlus 11R, OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite, and the upcoming OnePlus Nord 3 and OnePlus Fold will offer diverse options to consumers at multiple price points. The OnePlus Fold will launch globally, including in the United States and India.

These two are the target markets for this phone. We’ll probably see the same phone in China as the Oppo Find N3. The launch event for this phone will supposedly happen in New York. However, according to another exclusive leak from Abhishek Yadav on Twitter, a leaked poster reveals the estimated launch dates of the OnePlus Nord 3 and OnePlus Fold.

The poster says “OnePlus Road Trip Futurebound,” the dates mentioned are from June 16th to August 19th. We are likely to see several product launches in this phase. The Fold and Nord 3 are probably the most significant ones. This aligns with the earlier leak, which says the launch will happen sometime in August 2023. So, we can expect the OnePlus Fold to launch before August 19, 2023, and the Nord 3 as early as June 16.

OnePlus Fold Expected Specs

These leaks didn’t offer any details about the hardware. The phone may have an 8″ 120Hz LTPO QHD+ OLED screen and a 6.5″ OLED 1080P cover screen. We can expect the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC and a minimum of 256GB of internal storage with 12 or 16GB of RAM.

It’ll ship with Oxygen OS 13 out-of-the-box, and the rumors also say that we could see a large 4800 mAh battery (large for a foldable phone) and a whopping 80W of fast wired charging. According to the Digital Chat Section on Weibo, the cameras also look impressive.

The OnePlus Fold will get the IMX 890 1/1.56″ 50MP sensor as its primary, a 48MP ultra-wide, and a 64MP periscope telephoto camera. The periscope is the most interesting since it is the first time OnePlus will use it on their phones. It’s mostly the Omnivision 1/2″ 64MP OV64B sensor with a ~3X lens. This gives a perfect focal length for portraits and a decent enough long-range zoom.
