The iPhone 13 remains a prevalent choice even in 2023. It’s a good deal for someone in the Apple ecosystem or relying on Apple services like iMessage and FaceTime.
The iPhone 13 has a 6.1″ OLED screen with an 1170 x 2532 resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. It has 1200 Nits of peak brightness, which is barely enough to see your screen in sunlight, provided there’s no brightness dimming depending on ambient temperatures.
The iPhone 13 Mini has a 1080P 5.4″ screen, and the rest of the specs, like HDR10 support, maximum brightness, and Dolby Vision, remain the same as the larger iPhone 13.
The iPhone 13 Pro models have much better screens, though. The iPhone 13 Pro has a 6.1″ screen with an 1170 x 2532 resolution and an LTPO 120Hz OLED display. The HBM is 1000 Nits on the Pro models instead of 800 Nits on the baseline iPhones.
The peak brightness is the same across all four iPhone 13 models, at 1200 Nits—the iPhone 13 Pro Max and the 13 Pro share the exact display specifications. But the Pro Max has a larger 6.7″ display size.
Apple gets displays mainly from three different suppliers. Samsung, BOE, and LG. There’s no way to determine which supplier is better at display manufacturing.
We know that Samsung still supplies most panels for most models. However, on the 14 Pro Max, some reports say LG provides the most panels. None of this is official, so we won’t make any judgments.
There are other suppliers for the OLED industry, like Hauxing and Tianma, but Apple does not use them yet. Unfortunately, with material shortages and rising prices of components with many problems after COVID, Quality Control suffers even today.
A commonly known batch of OLED panels with a green line or tint problem is Samsung’s E4 AMOLED. We don’t know which panels are on the iPhone 13 lineup.
There’s a chance that defective panels are from one particular company or could also have issues. Recently, there were tons of reports across Twitter about the white screen on iPhone 13 models.
Previously, there were issues with a green tint on iPhone 13 displays. Problems began with flickering, which eventually developed into permanent panel damage. Over the months, similar problematic cases have piled up.
The entire threads on Apple’s Forums describe issues with the screens going completely white. This means the display issues are widespread, and there’s no real solution for it at the moment.
A tweet from Abishek Yadav collects dozens of reports about the white screen problems on such expensive flagship iPhones. It’s not just the base models; the Pro ones have these defects, too. In most cases, there was no physical damage either.

Users are understandably frustrated that they spend a fortune on flagship Apple products only to receive this treatment. Apple doesn’t acknowledge such problems, so we can’t expect them to make public statements.
Unfortunately, Apple Support isn’t always helpful with these issues. Since Apple doesn’t have official centers here, third-party affiliated ones vary in service quality. Some of them are helpful and replace your display for free, even if the phone is out of warranty.
In other cases, service center experiences haven’t been as good, where the technicians refuse repair even if the phone is under warranty or Apple Care. There’s still a chance that Apple could fix some units for free.
If you have such white screen problems, your best bet is the service center. These issues are widespread and not one-off cases. Unfortunately, we can’t rely on any company for proper quality control anymore in 2023.
