iPad Air was first introduced to the iPad lineup in 2013 as a midrange option. The Air falls between the base entry-level iPad and the high-end iPad Pro. This makes it a perfect choice for those who do not want to spend a lot on the Pro model or don’t want the compromises of the entry-level model.
The latest iPad is the fifth-generation iPad, released in March 2022. It came with good specifications for the price, leading to it selling reasonably well. Apple’s M1 silicon powers the iPad Air’s fifth generation, the first in the Air lineup to run an M series chip.
In terms of display, it had a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina panel. The display also supported True Tone and DCI P3 color gamut. For the optics, the iPad Air consisted of two cameras in total. The rear has a 12MP Wide camera and a 12MP Ultra Wide for the front.
The front camera also had features like a Centre stage for an enhanced video calling experience. Regarding the battery, Apple claims 10 hours of usage when browsing the web or watching videos on WiFi.
However, despite these great specs, the iPad Air fifth-generation is over a year old. This begs the question of the whereabouts of the sixth generation of iPad Air. And to answer that, there have been new leaks recently.
In the latest episode of “The Mac Rumours Show,” reliable tipster Mark Gurman said a new iPad Air is in the making with new and improved specifications. In addition to that, Gurman said that the new iPad Air is likely to launch this October, which is next month.
However, he added that he is skeptical about Apple holding a product launch event for it. With this information, we can expect it to be a silent launch. Apple has done something similar with the launch of M2 Pro and M2 Max Macbook models earlier this year.
Regarding specifications, Gurman believes it will be powered by Apple’s M2 silicon, succeeding the M1 in the last generation iPad Air. Apple will probably keep the refresh rate at the standard 60Hz. For now, this is the only info on specifications we have.
If we have to guess, the sixth-generation iPad Air will continue the tradition of offering both Cellular and WiFi models. We don’t have any information about the storage yet, but they could bump the base model’s storage to 128 GB from 64 GB. This invites a potential price increase.
