In the pre-release material of the Galaxy S24 and older models, Samsung had only 3 phones in the teaser artwork. There’s a new poster for the S25 series, which is coming out very soon.
The event date is officially confirmed- it’s on 22nd January 2025. While the exact model names and release timeframe are not official, Samsung might introduce 4 phones to the S series for the first time ever. The lineup will possibly include Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, and S25 Slim.
Quick Answer: The Galaxy S25 Slim might not launch at the January 22 Unpacked event alongside the main S25 series lineup. Samsung could delay its release to May 2025.
This essentially matches Apple – they have a regular and Plus size for the base models, a smaller “Pro” iPhone, and also a larger Pro Max. Technically, these are still two phones of different sizes. Samsung is probably going to offer 4 different options with different target audiences.
The question remains as to how they will position the new Slim variant. Pricing it right alongside the S25 Plus may sabotage the sales of the Plus model. Hiking the price substantially will put it too close to the Ultra model. Logically, it makes sense to simply replace the Plus model with the Slim. However, this may not happen.
The event is not going to take place in Korea this time. Instead, it’s in San Jose, California, in the USA. The teaser image shows 4 phones. It’s possible that Samsung will just tease the S25 Slim in January and not release it until the next Unpacked. Google did this before – teasing hardware months in advance of the release date.
We can assume that three of the phones in the image are the S25, the S25+, and the Ultra. What’s the fourth one? Several leakers speculate that it’s the new Slim model. However, they might have just used one phone twice to build up anticipation for the event.
Leaks about the existence of the S25 Slim have been ripe for months. The number of times the model number was spotted was, however, much lower than the other models. This leads many to believe they’ll launch it several months later, and Samsung might not have any plans to launch it in January alongside the main lineup. Tipster Setsuna Digital on Weibo said that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim may launch in May this year.
Business-wise, it makes more sense to launch the S25 Slim a couple of months later once the novelty factor of the S25 series dies down. This will give them a lot more media coverage.
The spec sheet is strong for a Samsung flagship. It’s apparently borrowing the 200MP main sensor from the Ultra model. They’ve also developed a new ALOP technology, which folds lenses internally for more zoom range. We might get the S25 Slim as the first phone with this technology. It saves a lot of interior space, which is crucial when making a slim phone.
As per leaks, it’ll use the Samsung JN5 50MP sensor with 3.5X optical zoom. The rest of the specs might include a standard 120Hz 1440P 6.7″ AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite, and a 4700mAh battery. In essence, it’s like a slimmer Ultra Samsung phone without the S Pen.
