Normally, the Samsung S series lineup, which launches in January, has only three models: a base model, which is compact, a bigger-sized Plus, and the maxed-out Ultra. As per leaks, this is changing with the S25 series. Samsung is reportedly introducing a Slim version of the S25, but not at the start of the year– probably around May.
As per a new leak, the S25 Slim will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The leak is via Geekbench, and the scores are 3000 for single-core and 7000 for multi-core. While the single-core score is on par with the rest of the Snapdragon 8 Elite offerings, the multi-core is comparatively a lot lower.
The model number is SM-S937U. It’s running at 4.47 GHz, and the 8 Elite’s usual clock speed is 4.32 GHz. This confirms the existence of a Snapdragon 8 Elite “for Galaxy.”
It is obviously debatable about how much benchmarks affect real-world use. This is especially true with multi-core CPU tests. However, it is quite odd that Samsung doesn’t reach the usual 9000+ score in the Geekbench multi-core run. For reference, the OnePlus 13 scores around 3000 in the single-core run but breaks 9000 in the multi-core Geekbench test.
We can assume that the slim form factor with a poor thermal envelope is causing trouble. Besides, slim phones are not made for performance enthusiasts. We suspect that Samsung might limit the performance via software to avoid heating issues. In the end, there’s a heavy chance that this is just a prototype unit and that real-world scores might go higher than this.
The S25 Ultra, for instance, scores over 10,000 in the multi-core Geekbench test. In other leaks, the S25 Slim is apparently just 6.5mm in thickness, and this is even slimmer than Samsung’s compact 6″ models. However, the S25 Slim is not a compact device.
Leaks point to a 6.7″ screen size, which brings it closer to the Plus models. We can expect a 1440P panel and a decently large 4700mAh battery. For the cameras, the leaks say it’ll borrow the 200MP main sensor from the Ultra models. They might add a new 3.5X folded periscope camera, too (1/2.76″ Samsung JN5 50MP sensor). We can expect a teaser this month, with a release sometime in May. The pricing and positioning of this product with respect to the Plus will be interesting to look at.
