Vivo recently launched the first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor at CES 2018. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer plans to unveil a completely different smartphone in the upcoming MWC 2018 event. The company has officially teased a video of its full-screen concept smartphone called APEX.
We posted an image earlier this month showing a Vivo smartphone with an almost 100% screen-to-body ratio. The image was spotted on the Chinese media platform Weibo, and from the looks, we can say that it’s the same APEX smartphone the company teased today. The smartphone had very narrow bezels, and the earpiece was likely embedded under the display.
In the teaser video Vivo posted, the APEX smartphone can be seen with almost no bezels. It reminds us of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 with a similar lower chin bezel. Vivo used the tag “Unlock the future” for the upcoming device.
The teaser video, however, only informs about the display and nothing about the smartphone’s specs. Still, we can assume the smartphone will carry the under-display fingerprint sensor, which Synaptics made. The sensor may also be improved since the company had time to review its flaws. Also, one crucial aspect is that there seems to be no front camera, though it might carry one on the lower chin bezel like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. However, many users complained later about the awkwardness of video calling and taking selfies on the smartphone.
The Vivo APEX smartphone will be unveiled at the MWC 2018 event in Barcelona, Spain, at the end of this week. The device will likely be placed in the value flagship segment, where it will be competing against the likes of the OnePlus 5T and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.
