Samsung is continuing its fast-paced beta cycle with the release of One UI 8.5 Beta 8 for the Galaxy S25 lineup. The update is now expanding beyond its initial market, signaling broader testing as the company edges closer to a stable build.
The Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra are all part of the rollout. Availability remains limited to beta participants, but the geographic reach is widening.
Rollout expands from Germany to more regions
According to tipster Tarun Vats on X, Beta 8 first went live in Germany before reaching users in the UK and India. That staggered release pattern follows Samsung’s typical beta strategy, where builds are validated in one region before wider deployment.
The inclusion of India at this stage suggests Samsung is confident enough in this build to expose it to a larger and more diverse user base.
Bug fixes dominate this release
The official changelog makes it clear this is a maintenance-heavy update. There are no new user-facing features, but a long list of targeted fixes.
Gallery functionality sees a small addition: a new rewind-based sorting option covering monthly, quarterly, and annual views. It’s one of the few visible tweaks in this build.
Camera stability has also been addressed. Samsung fixed an issue where quick-view thumbnails could break when cloud-exclusive videos appeared as the most recent media.
Several fixes focus on Samsung Studio, particularly around save resolution behavior. Previous builds could fail to restore the original values correctly after changes, a problem that should now be resolved.
Notification handling has also been refined. Real-time notification flickering is reduced, and bubble notification badges now clear correctly after being viewed.
There are smaller but practical fixes, too. The clock shortcut no longer disappears when the screen turns off during Now Brief. Video metadata errors affecting date display have been corrected. Scrolling screenshots in Naver Map should also behave properly again.
Where One UI 8.5 fits in Samsung’s update cycle
One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 and represents a refinement cycle rather than a major upgrade. Samsung has taken a quieter approach this year, focusing on system consistency rather than introducing major design changes.
That direction has been consistent across the beta program. Earlier builds introduced subtle animation tuning and minor interface adjustments. Recent updates, including Beta 8, are almost entirely about fixing edge cases and improving reliability.
Compared to One UI 7, the differences are less visible on the surface. The emphasis is clearly on reducing friction in everyday use.
Incremental improvements, closer to release
For users running the beta, the impact of this update should be noticeable in small ways. Fewer UI glitches, better notification behavior, and improved app stability all contribute to a smoother experience.
Still, this is not a feature-driven release. It’s part of the final stretch.
The build weighs in at just under 900 MB and includes the March 5, 2026, security patch, another sign that Samsung is aligning this beta with near-final software conditions.
The remaining question is timing. If Beta 8 lands cleanly across newer regions like the UK and India, the next update might not be a beta at all.
