A new leak out of China suggests Samsung is testing hardware-level privacy features for a future Galaxy S device. The claim comes from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, a source with a credible track record on early hardware details.
According to the post, a device referred to as the Galaxy S27 Pro is currently being tested with a “hardware-level privacy screen” alongside a 6.47-inch display. The wording implies a physical or panel-level solution rather than a software-based viewing filter.
That distinction matters.
Hardware privacy could shift how screens behave
Most smartphones today rely on software tricks or optional screen protectors to limit viewing angles. These approaches either dim the display, reduce contrast off-axis, or require an external accessory that affects clarity.
A hardware-integrated solution would likely work at the panel level, potentially using directional backlighting or layered polarization to restrict visibility from side angles. That could allow full brightness and color accuracy for the user while making the screen appear dark or distorted to anyone nearby.
The leak doesn’t specify how Samsung is implementing the feature. It also remains unclear whether this would be toggleable or always active. A permanent narrow viewing angle would create usability trade-offs, especially for media consumption or sharing content.
The 6.47-inch display mentioned in the leak is also unusual for a “Pro” model. Recent Galaxy S Ultra devices have pushed well past 6.8 inches, while smaller variants sit closer to the 6.1–6.6-inch range.
