The upcoming premium flagship from Samsung, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, has been the talk of the town lately, months before it is even launched. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will look more similar to the S22 Ultra than you might think, and it will feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Ice Universe has shared a camera sample from a Galaxy S23 Ultra prototype to add to this hype. And the sample does give hope of promising results from the actual device.
Galaxy S23 Ultra vs S22 Ultra Camera Sample
In a Weibo post containing the sample image, Ice Universe compares a scene shot by a Galaxy S23 Ultra to the same scene shot by a Galaxy S22 Ultra. The photos were cropped and upscaled 16 times each. It is also mentioned that AI-based enhancements were disabled for both images. From what is shown, the image from the Galaxy S23 Ultra retains better details and is the sharper one of the two.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Camera Specifications
It Is pretty much given that the primary camera sensor of the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be a 200MP one, which makes it Samsung’s first phone to feature a 200MP sensor. However, it will not be either of the currently known ones, namely the ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL HP3. According to Ice Universe, this one has new dimensions; the pixel size is 0.6μm, and the sensor size is 1/1.3″. Besides, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will support a 50MP mode alongside the 12.5MP and 200MP ones.
Correction: The 200MP of the S23 Ultra supports 50MP, but it is not yet enabled, the camera software does not support it, and it is under development.

As per the same source, the two telephoto sensors in the Galaxy S23 Ultra are the same as the previous generation. However, there is still improvement in the outputs due to upgrades in AI algorithms. Speaking of improved algorithms, the low light performance of the Galaxy S23 Ultra has also been greatly enhanced compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Although the 3x and 10x camera specs are exactly the same as those of the S22 Ultra, the S23 Ultra still has an improvement in telephoto, and the improvement in color and some AI algorithms is obvious.

Lastly, note that these claims are solely based on leaks, and few of them have been backed up by proof. So, we can not entirely rely on these until the actual device comes out a few months from now, in the first quarter of 2023. Until then, we can only hope for the best.
