Google has added a fan-favorite feature to the Pixel Camera app. Along with the December 2024 Feature Drop, Pixel Camera 9.7 is also rolling out, which brings back the highly requested Quick Access Controls.
Now, Pixel Camera users can make minor adjustments to things like white balance, brightness, and shadows right in the viewfinder. This feature that many users enjoyed was removed in one of the previous updates. The v9.1 redesign buried these controls in the bottom menu, making the process a lot harder. But now, they’re back!
To enable the feature, simply update to Pixel Camera 9.7, access the app’s settings, and enable Quick access controls. After it’s enabled, just tap the viewfinder to bring up the sliders and make your adjustments. This recent change is making tons of Pixel users very happy.
Taking Quick Access Controls away felt like a step backward, particularly to anyone who appreciated the speed and ease of on-screen adjustments. The backlash from users clearly shows how much they liked the feature.
Now, you can change your shot easily with a tap. There is no need to go through menus or pause your photography. This minor tweak makes a major difference.
The update doesn’t end there, however. Foldable Pixel devices such as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel Fold will get a feature known as Dual Screen Portrait Mode. This enables you to use both front and back cameras for portraits, giving the subject a live view of their photo.
There is also a fun feature called Made You Look, which displays animated characters on the external display. Last year’s foldable had it, but this time, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold features an exclusive character, Joy from Inside Out.
