The One UI 8.5 beta launched on December 8, 2025 — and it’s already rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, giving early access to new features, enhanced security, and smoother cross-device integration for eligible users.

What happened, and when

  • On December 8, 2025, Samsung officially kicked off the One UI 8.5 beta program in multiple markets, including South Korea, Germany, Poland, India, the UK, and the U.S.
  • The first wave of the beta is limited to the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra — the update does not include the S25 FE or S25 Edge for now.
  • Users can enrol via the Samsung Members app. Once enrolled, update arrives under Settings → Software update.

Key new features in One UI 8.5

Smarter ecosystem integration & sharing

  • The update introduces Storage Share in the “My Files” app — letting a phone access storage on other nearby Galaxy devices, tablets, or even Samsung TVs.
  • A new Audio Broadcast (Auracast-based) mode allows users to stream voice or audio from their phone to nearby compatible devices, making cross-device audio sharing more fluid.

Better customization & user interface refinements

  • The Quick Settings/Quick Panel becomes fully customizable — users can rearrange toggles and sliders, and the UI of first-party apps gets a subtle refresh.
  • Visual enhancements include reworked icons (some with 3D-style effects) and UI tweaks inspired by a “Liquid Glass” aesthetic — smoother, cleaner visuals throughout the OS.
  • Improved alarm/clock features: users may notice weather-based backgrounds for alarms and refined lock-screen/ widget layouts.

Privacy, Security & Performance improvements

  • The beta ships with enhanced security controls — including a “theft protection” safeguard and stricter authentication mechanisms to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Overall performance optimizations, better battery & power-management, and refined system stability are also part of the update.

One UI 8.5 beta availability — what devices are supported

  • The initial beta rollout covers the Galaxy S25 series (S25, S25+, S25 Ultra).
  • The first wave includes South Korea, Germany, Poland, India, the UK, and the U.S.
  • As of now, S25 FE and Edge variants are excluded.
  • Later phases may expand support to other Galaxy devices and also in other countries — according to Samsung’s usual rollout pattern, broader device families might get One UI 8.5 after the S25 series.

When will One UI 8.5 go public?

The full stable release of One UI 8.5 is expected in early 2026 — likely rolling out broadly to more Galaxy devices, including older flagships, mid-range models, and foldables.

In the meantime, the beta program allows Samsung to collect feedback and refine features before the mass rollout. For now, Galaxy S25 series owners in supported regions can get a preview of what’s coming.
