iPhone 14 Plus Could be the Final Name for the New Standard 6.7-inch iPhone

Apple has released “invites” for its “Far Out” event that will be held on September 7. Apple is likely to announce four new iPhone 14 models during the event. This year, Apple is expected to drop the iPhone mini and replace it with a bigger 6.7-inch standard iPhone 14. Until now, everyone was referring to this model of the iPhone 14 as “iPhone 14 Max.” However, recent leaks show that the new iPhone model could have a different name.

iPhone 14 Plus?

A recently leaked photo of the iPhone 14 case, shared by Twitter user “Tommy Boi,” reveals an iPhone case with the name “iPhone 14 Plus” inscribed. A “Plus” variant is not something new to the iPhone lineup. We have seen many iterations of the iPhone with “Plus” in its name. iPhone 6 Plus and 7 Plus, to name a few.

The last time Apple used the “Plus” name for its iPhones was with the iPhone 8 Plus. Following that, Apple started using a new “Max” name for its larger screen-size iPhones, including the iPhone XS Max, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

People argue that the “Plus” could differentiate between the standard and the Pro iPhone models. This naming will also bring consistency across Apple’s other product names, like the M1 Pro and the M1 Max, where the Max is more powerful and expensive. Naming the standard and less powerful iPhone “Max” wouldn’t make sense.

If the leaked image holds, the iPhone 14 lineup will include the following models— a base 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a large size 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.

As for the image source, Tommy Boi has a good track record regarding Apple cases. Last year, he accurately leaked a couple of iPhone case colors. However, since it’s just a leak and the image could be photoshopped, take this with a pinch of salt. We shall wait until Apple officially announces the iPhone 14 next week.
