Intel Core i9-14900KS with 6.2GHz Clock Speed Surfaces Online

Intel unveiled their latest Core 14th Gen processors at their Intel Innovation 2023 event. Most of the processors in this lineup come with incremental upgrades, with nothing much to offer more than the previous generation. However, it seems like this lineup of chips will finally have a worthy member soon.

Retailer Lists PCs With Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU

In recent news, a retailer has listed some pre-built PCs on their site that feature the Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU. The most fascinating bit about the CPU, judged per the listing, is its clock speed of 6.2 GHz. This is in line with rumors that were doing rounds on the internet about six months ago.

If this chip eventually makes it to the markets, it will have the highest clock speed (out of the box) on any consumer-grade chip. For some reference, the Intel Core i9-13900KS maxed out of the box at a clock speed of 6 GHz. However, considering overclocking, we can expect even higher clock speeds. The Intel Core i9-14900K has already touched a world record of 9.1 GHz.

The listing also reveals that the pre-built PCs that feature this chip are not high-end. They all feature the last-generation DDR4 RAM clocked at 3.2 GHz with integrated graphics cards (Intel UHD Graphics 770). There are three RAM variants — 16GB, 32GB, and 64 GB. The former two start with 256GB of NVMe SSD and go up to 4TB of the same (256GB, 512GB, 1TB, 2TB, 4TB). However, the 64GB RAM variants only have 256GB or 512GB of NVMe SSD.

Specifications of the Intel Core i9-14900KS

The core and thread count will be the same in the most probable cases. That is a total of 24 cores and 32 threads. Out of these 24 cores, 8 will be the Performance or P-cores, and the remaining 16 will serve the role of Efficiency or E-cores. This configuration is the same as the already available Intel Core i9-14900K.

As mentioned earlier, the chip will max out at a clock speed of 6.2 GHz. The thermal design power (TDP) is also said to increase by about 20%. That brings it to 150W from the 125W on the Core i9-14900K. The maximum power draw will be touching about 300W if the tests on the Intel Core i9-13900KS are anything to go by.

Launch Timings and Price?

Following previous trends, Intel may launch its Core i9-14900KS chip in the first quarter 2024. As for the price, the last time we saw a price bump in a KS model was two generations ago. However, there has been an increase in the prices across all models this year. So, a fair guess would be somewhere around $729.

Lastly, Intel has not officially confirmed anything about the chip so far. So, it is best to take everything with a pinch of salt.
