Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip 7 FE Launched: Everything You Need to Know

Samsung has recently announced three new foldable models: Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and Galaxy Z Fold 7. All devices arrive with a substantial upgrade from their previous generations, and Samsung has taken feedback seriously this time. Instead of just minor iterative upgrades, the company has made major improvements to the aesthetics and functionality.

Samsung unveiled the Z Flip 7, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7 FE

Thanks to new engineering and better technology, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 gets as low as 4.2mm when unfolded. When folded, it’s only 8.9mm, which is practically the same thickness as most modern slab phones. Considering the amount of technology and engineering required to accomplish this, we can call it a breakthrough. The phone weighs only 215g, which is also fairly comparable to many slab phones. There are several overall improvements in the form factor, comfort, and in-hand feel. A phone that’s lighter to hold is much better for multitasking.

The company maintains the tall 21:9 aspect ratio for the outer screen, which is very convenient. The new ‘Armor Flex Hinge’ drastically drops the visibility of the crease while also improving the durability. It’s not just the aesthetics and build that got an upgrade, though. Samsung has also upgraded the cameras.

While the 3X telephoto still uses a tiny sensor, the main camera has moved to the ISOCELL HP2, the same sensor as the S25 Ultra. Since the sensor size is up from 1/1.56″ to 1/1.3″, the images will look a lot better. More light intake will mean better photo output, a more shallow depth of field, and better low light.

Samsung has removed support for the S Pen for the Z Fold 7. To those who were used to it on the Z Flip 6, phasing it out now may leave a sour impression. Instead of improving the under-display selfie camera, Samsung has replaced it with a typical punch-hole camera, which is a 10MP sensor, with a 100-degree FOV.

Specifications summary of Z Fold 7:

  • 8″ LTPO AMOLED 120Hz 1968 x 2184 inner display with 2600 nits peak brightness
  • 6.5″ LTPO 120Hz 1080 X 2520 outer/ cover display

The main talking point of the Z Flip 7 was the vastly improved outer cover screen. It’s fully edge-to-edge, and a lot better than last year. Samsung calls it the ‘Flex Window’ display, and it’s a huge upgrade. 4.1″ in size, with a good resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate as well. It runs the 3nm Exynos 2500 SOC, and there’s also a battery capacity bump to 4300mAh. The overall device has several upgrades, but the same starting price as last year.

Specifications of the Z Flip 7:

  • 6.9″ LTPO AMOLED 1080 X 2520 120Hz screen with 2600 nits peak brightness (inner screen)

  • 4300mAh battery, 25W wired, 15W wireless, 4.5W reverse, USB C Type 3.2
  • Price: Starts at 1099$

While these are the main products, the Z Flip 7 FE is a Z Flip 6, but with the Exynos 2400 chipset. There are no changes to the specifications, apart from the SOC. The price starts at 899$. It starts at only 128GB, and the battery is still at 4000mAh. Last year’s Z Flip 6 is a far better deal than this, for a lower price too.
