Galaxy S24 Series could get an Instagram Camera Shortcut on the Lock Screen

Galaxy S24 May Feature Instagram Camera Shortcut on Lock Screen

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series still has some time left for its launch. However, we have approached close enough to its launch to get new leaks frequently.

A tipster, Alessandro Paluzzi, has new leaks about the Galaxy S24 series. The tipster shared a screenshot of an upcoming feature on the social media platform X.

The screenshot shows a popup from the Instagram app that says, “Samsung Galaxy S24 users can now turn on a shortcut to Instagram Camera in settings.” In that popup, we can also see three options after the caption. The options read “Try it, More Options…, and No thanks.” This popup will probably appear when you first install and launch the Instagram app on your Galaxy S24 series phone. You might have to enable it manually in Settings later if you dismiss the popup initially.

As of now, it’s unclear what’s behind the “More options” tab. We might get more options, like adding a story via a shortcut. For now, we can assume it’ll launch the Instagram camera from which you can add a post, a story, or record a reel. It has many filters and layout options, and it’s a different experience from the standard camera app on your phone.

Currently, one UI lock screen shortcuts are limited to system apps with a few exceptions. However, this partnership will help the brand improve the user experience of social media apps for their users. However, it is to be noted that this feature only launches the Instagram camera and not the app itself.

You can currently use Music, Weather, Alarms, and Routines on the lock screen. These are all first-party apps. After the One UI 6.1, Samsung could issue APIs for developers to include lock screen shortcuts for their apps. This is similar to Apple’s implementation of lock screen widgets. However, it’s much more practical since Apple doesn’t let you put shortcuts to other apps on the Lock Screen without using a third-party app.

The Galaxy S24 series will ship with One UI 6.1 out of the box, and other Galaxy phones will receive the update later. We expect the S24 lineup to launch early in January 2024. Other phones might get the One UI 6.1 update in either January or February, along with the February security patch.

One UI 6 still has minor inconsistencies with widget transitions, and Samsung typically adds new features with minor “.1” updates. With One UI 6.1, we can expect social media widgets and shortcuts on the lock screen. According to the leak, Instagram is now the only app under testing. But we can expect many other developers to jump on board and add their lock screen widgets and shortcuts.
