Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone appears to be moving closer to reality. Fresh information shared on Weibo claims the company has selected a liquid-metal hinge design for its first foldable device, which observers increasingly refer to as the “iPhone Ultra.”
The latest details suggest development is progressing at a steady pace despite manufacturing challenges. According to the leak, prototype units have already been distributed to carriers worldwide for testing, a step that typically indicates a product has entered a more advanced phase of validation ahead of launch.
The hinge could be one of the most technically ambitious parts of the device.
A liquid metal hinge would differ from conventional stainless steel or aluminum mechanisms commonly used in foldable smartphones today.
