AMD’s RX 9070 XT could be faster than NVIDIA’s RTX 4080 Super

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2025), AMD announced its RDNA 4 graphics cards with FSR4 tech. While the company might be holding this launch for a later date (Q1 2025), we do have some new interesting information. A recent leak has revealed the benchmark scores of the Radeon RX 9070 XT, and it is looking good.

Radeon RX 9070 XT benchmark scores leaked

The original leak, which has now been taken down, shows us the details of two 3DMark benchmark tests along with an image of a GPU-Z window—members on the forum where this leak was posted added further details as well. For instance, the Radeon RX 9070 XT will supposedly have 330W of total board power (TBP). This number was first expected to be around 265W.

Although the original leak is unavailable now, users Wukongmyth2460 and 0x22h have posted the images on X (formerly Twitter). One of the images shows us the results of a 3DMark Time Spy Extreme test, in which the card scores 14591 points. This is better than the NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super, which usually scores around 14400.

In the other image (via PCgamesN), we can see the results of a 3DMark Speedway. The Radeon RX 9070 XT lacks a bit in this test, with a score of 6345 points. This is lower than the RTX 4080 Super, which sits somewhere around 7500 points.

Note that it is still too early to make conclusive statements regarding the GPU. Once stuff like the drivers are finalized, we might see improvements in the overall performance.

GPU-Z data shows 3GHz boost clock speed, 2.5GHz base

Coming to the GPU-Z details, the image clearly shows that the software detects the graphics card as a Radeon RX 7800 XT. However, the specifications it shows are very different. This could possibly mean that the card is actually the Radeon RX 9070 XT. And if that turns out to be true, the boost clock speed will be a bit more than 3GHz. Besides that, the base clock speed will touch at least 2.5GHz.

If the actual product is anything like the one shown in these leaks, this could give fierce competition to NVIDIA’s offerings in the midrange section. We will hopefully see more details as time goes by.
