Apple’s first foldable might feature a tiny outer display

Rumors regarding Apple’s first foldable are not new, but its release now seems closer than ever. A report in December predicted that the launch might happen in 2026. Now, a recent leak reveals the possible screen sizes of both the outer and the inner displays of this device.

Smaller outer display, inner display with a long aspect ratio

This leak comes from leaker Jukanlosreve on X (formerly Twitter), with the source being Meritz Securities. The leaker claims that the outer display on Apple’s first foldable will be a 5.3 to 5.5-inch panel.

This is rather small compared to other options on the market. The inner display, on the other hand, will feature a more standard size of 7.6 to 7.9 inches. These will obviously come with technologies like LTPO, CoE, and UTG.

The leaker also mentioned that the entirety of the panel supply is going to come from Samsung, at least for the first couple of years. BOE, another major producer of foldable screens, may join the supply chain starting in 2028.

Foldable iPad

As per the leaker, there is supposedly a foldable iPad in the works, too, but that may not come out in the near future. The primary reason for this delay seems to be cost.

The foldable iPad will reportedly feature an 18.8-inch panel supplied by LG. We expect more details to surface with time.
