Google is preparing to roll out Android 17 much earlier than Android releases used to arrive. The company shifted to a faster development cycle beginning with Android 16, and Android 17 is following the same schedule. According to Google’s developer roadmap, the platform is targeting a stable release during the second quarter of 2026, with June widely expected as the launch window.
Android 17 has already progressed through multiple beta releases and reached platform stability in March, meaning the core APIs and app behavior are finalized. Beta 4 arrived in April, while a small Beta 4.1 update recently addressed bugs ahead of the public rollout.
Pixel devices will get Android 17 first
As with every major Android release, Google’s Pixel lineup will be first in line for the stable update. Supported devices currently include the Pixel 6 series and newer, extending all the way to the Pixel 10 family.
Google’s official Android 17 beta documentation lists the following devices as eligible:
- Pixel 6,
- Pixel 6 Pro,
- Pixel 6a,
- Pixel 7 series,
- Pixel 8 series,
- Pixel 9 series,
- Pixel 10 series,
- Pixel Fold, and
- Pixel Tablet.
The first phones expected to receive the final Android 17 build are:
- Pixel 10
- Pixel 10 Pro
- Pixel 10 Pro XL
- Pixel 10 Pro Fold
Also, the Pixel 11 series is expected to launch around the same period as Android 17 and will likely ship with the new operating system preinstalled. Existing Pixel devices, including the Pixel 9, Pixel 8, Pixel 7, and Pixel 6 series, should receive the update shortly afterward through an over-the-air rollout.
What Android 17 brings
Android 17 focuses more on refinement than dramatic redesigns. Google has introduced updates to Material 3 Expressive, performance optimizations, large-screen improvements, security enhancements, and several AI-powered Gemini features. The release also continues Google’s quarterly platform update strategy, allowing new features to arrive throughout the year rather than waiting for Android 18.
For Pixel owners, the key takeaway is simple: if you own a Pixel 6 or newer device, Android 17 should arrive first on Google’s hardware, with the Pixel 10 series likely serving as the flagship showcase for the new software when the stable version lands in June 2026.
