After months of leaks and rumours, Xiaomi announced that it would be unveiling the Redmi S2 smartphone on May 10. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer announced it through their official account in Chinese media platform Weibo. The poster reveals Chinese actor Liu Haoran endorsing the Redmi S2 smartphone which is being advertised as a selfie-centric smartphone. Previously the company put a teaser image in its Weibo official account which contained just a letter ‘S’.
The smartphone has previously made an appearance in TENAA where it revealed and a full-screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio, dual cameras on the rear stacked in a vertical position with a fingerprint sensor, just like the Mi 6X. The Antenna bands cover the top and bottom part of the smartphone. The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right while the SIM card slot is on the left.
As for the specs, the smartphone sports a display which is likely measures 5.99 inches. It comes with a resolution of HD+ (1440 x 720 pixels) and 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset. It will be offered in three storage variants: 2 GB RAM + 16 GB internal storage, 3 GB RAM + 32 GB internal storage and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB internal storage.
In the optics department, the Redmi S2 offers a dual camera set up in the back consisting of 12 MP primary camera sensor and a 5 MP secondary camera sensor to sense depth and add bokeh effect on your photos. On the front, it offers a 5 MP camera sensor for selfies and video calling. It will likely run MIUI 9 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo backed by a 3,000 mAh battery. The smartphone measures 160.7 x 77.3 x 8.1 mm and weighs 170 g.
Xiaomi is expected to launch the smartphone in partnership with Chinese retailer Suning where it will cost around 175$ (Rs 11,000 approx).
