Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has announced its first selfie centric smartphones Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite In a press event in New Delhi today. Xiaomi says the Redmi Y series is targeted at the youth of the nation. The event also saw the launch of the new MIUI 9 which will offer fast app launch time, haptic feedback, and intelligent CPU acceleration and optimised thread scheduling. Xiaomi even claims the MIUI 9 is fast as stock Android.
The biggest highlight of the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is its 16 MP front camera which comes with an LED flash for shooting selfies in low light conditions. It has an f/2.0 aperture and 76.4-degrees wide-angle lens. It also comes with Beautify 3.0 which helps to make your selfies look more beautiful. There is a 13 MP rear camera sensor with PDAF, f/2.0 aperture and an LED flash.
The Redmi Y1 has a 5.5 inch HD (720×1280 pixels) LCD with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC clocked at 1.4 GHz, it has two memory options: 3 GB of RAM + 32 GB internal memory or 4 GB of RAM + 64 GB internal storage. Internal memory is expandable up to 128 GB with a micro SD card. It measures 153 x 76.2 x 7.7 mm and weighs 153 grams.
The device features a fingerprint sensor on the back and runs on Android Nougat 7.0 with MIUI 9. The device also features two SIM slots and a micro SD slot together. The device is available in Gold and Dark Grey colour variants. It is backed up by a 3080 mAh battery.
The 3 GB variant will cost $140 ( Rs 8,999 ) while the 4 GB variant is priced at $170 ( Rs 10,999).
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite comes with a 5.5 inch HD (1280 x 720) display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Under the hood, it features a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The device offers 16 GB of internal memory which is expandable up to 128 GB with micro SD card. This has almost the same specs as the Redmi Note 5A.
The rear camera is the same as on The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 but on the front, it gets a 5 MP camera sensor, and there is no fingerprint sensor anywhere. But it gets an IR blaster. The device is backed by a 3080 mAh battery and is priced at $110 (Rs 6,999).
The smartphones series may be new in India, but globally we know these devices like the Redmi Note 5A Prime and the Redmi Note 5A, released in September in China.
Both these products are Amazon exclusive and will also be available in Xiaomi offline stores. The first flash sale starts on November 8 at 12 noon.
