Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is Not Coming; Redmi 5 Plus is the Higher Variant

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi launched its Redmi 5 series earlier this month, which included the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus. Although both smartphones were spectacular, many fans await the Redmi Note 5. Note 5 is supposed to be the best device of the three. Its predecessor, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, made record-breaking sales.

However, a new report suggests that the Redmi 5 Note will not be launched, and the Redmi 5 Plus is Note 5 with a different name tag. This information was claimed by a user, mitch002, on the MIUI forum.

If this information is accurate, we have only one option (Redmi 5 Plus) to upgrade from the Redmi 4 smartphone. According to the user mitch002, Xiaomi is now dropping the “Note” tag. However, we can’t be sure of this news as there is no way to confirm.

There have been too many reports of the Xiaomi Note 5 before, making it even harder to digest this information. The device was spotted on an online retailer and even appeared on TENNA. Not only that, a user who goes by the name @grassgrassgrass leaked the specs of this device on the Chinese media platform Weibo. If that’s not enough, a hands-on image of the device was also revealed.

From all the leaks, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will sport a 5.5-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display with an FHD+ 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution. It features a unibody metal design with curved edges on the rear. The right side contains the volume rocker and power button, while the left side includes the Hybrid SIM slot, which can hold 2 SIM cards or a SIM card and a micro SD card combo. The device will run the new MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.1 Nougat and is backed by a 4,000 mAh battery. Connectivity options include WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS GLONASS, and IR blaster. It is supposed to come with a dual camera setup on the back: a 16-megapixel camera and a 5-megapixel.

There will be a fingerprint sensor on the rear. It will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset on the top variant with MediaTek Helio P25 on the standard version of the Redmi Note 5 and is expected to be available in the following colors: black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Grey, and Silver. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was the fastest to reach 1 million units and sold 5 million Redmi Note 4 units in six months. There is no possible reason I could think of why Xiaomi will cancel this variant of the Redmi 5 series.
